OK, Julie talked me into it.... Haven't done the Friday thread in a while - for some reason it makes me think of Lisa and Chas. Where are you guys? You are missed....

Things you are grateful for this year:

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:

Thanks John I'll play!

Things you are grateful for this year:

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year: getting healthy and staying healthy after my May month long injury and PR'ing at Chicago by 54 sec.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get: my kids who deserve more affirmation from me than I give, although I'm working at that and my wife who pulls a large share of the load.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?Sister-in-law's house.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?T u r k e y T r o t !

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving? The usual suspects but I always loved oyster casserole. Dessert: Pumkin Squares w/ whip cream. (salivating right now, see what you did)
Turkey leftovers reheated or cold? reheat main dishes

Black Friday shopping? NEVER! Hate shopping and will be working during AEP! (Medicare)

Things you are grateful for this year:

All the usual good stuff! I could count my blessings here, but would fill the page with them.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:

Surviving a persistent and nasty case of PF, and getting to run another marathon despite it.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:

All the cops, firefighters and EMTs working on Thanksgiving.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?

Manchester Road Race, with my daughter, Amby Burfoot and 14,998 of my other close friends, then at my father-in-law's, with family and friends.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?

Just the usual - the race, then the feast...

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?

I like the turkey most, then spuds and gravy, then everything else.

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?

Cold.

Black Friday shopping?

That is a spectator sport, best watched on TV.

Things you are grateful for this year:
From my blog - I'm thankful that I have you all to lean on. I am thankful that you
share your experiences, successes and failures with me and am thankful
that I get so much encouragement from so many of you. I'm, of course,
thankful for my family and all of my many blessings, including the
ability to run. I'm thankful for my mother doing so well through her lymphoma treatments. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and thanks for, well, just being here and being yourselves!

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:
Finishing my first marathon this last spring

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:

My son's school teachers and his Sunday school / church volunteer teachers. Thank you!

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?
In Atlanta with my side of the family. We will miss our Nebraska side though.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?
When I was a kid, we always went to see a movie Thanksgiving night after watching football during the day. Dad worked a lot, so it was pretty cool to have all of us together - and he always took us to see a really cool movie!

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?
Turkey, stuffing, gravy! We always have raspberry jello with raspberries/applesauce in it with a whipped cream/marshmallow top - yummy!

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?

Definitely reheated! Not a huge fan of cold turkey sandwiches.

Black Friday shopping?
No way - that is what the internet is for!!!

Things you are grateful for this year:

My family, health, both my husband and I doing well at our jobs and keeping them (way too many people unemployed right now not to be thankful for employment).

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:

I ran 4 marathons this year but mostly grateful I could tough it out this summer and stick with a tough-to-me training program even in a heat advisory for a few weeks

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:

My mom, but I think parents in general don't get thanked enough.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?

My sister's home about an hr away.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?

It hasn't always been a big holiday in my family of origin since my grandpa died the day before Thanksgiving in '88 so I think we all think of him this time of yr. But my husband's family always hosts Thanksgiving dinner and has extended family over so I've been at their house the last 4 yrs. Decorating for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving or that weekend is a my family thing.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?

Stuffing/dressing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?

warm

Black Friday shopping?

no but I am planning a CVS trip Thanksgiving morning because they have way too many freebies or money makers to avoid it completely.

Just the gift of life itself.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year of running. 10 5Ks, 5 & 10 mile races, half marathon, full marathon and an 8-hour ultra.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:
The teachers at my former school - the pressure on them is incredible.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?
In Champaign, IL with my wife's family. Our 6 kids are all over the country and we have not all been together since 2006.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?
Eating and napping.

White turkey meat and mashed potatoes and gravy.

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?
Reheated, of course!

Things you are grateful for this year:

My family and all the changes we've had this year...two cousins getting engaged, one getting married, another new baby in the family (not mine!)

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:

Hmmm...my running hasn't been great this year, but I am grateful to finally have a diagnosis for what is going on with my feet, so that maybe now we can get down to the business of fixing them for next year!

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:

My mom.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?

At my grandparents' house with my parents, sisters and everyone on my mother's side of the family. 21 people total. Only the second time in the past 8 Thanksgivings that I'll actually be "home" for the holiday.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?

No special traditions in my family...I just really like having all the family together for a few hours.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?

Pumpkin pie. Stuffing. Pumpkin pie. Cranberries. Did I mention I like pumpkin pie?

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?

Cold...turkey and cranberry sandwiches the day after Thanksgiving are awesome.

Black Friday shopping?

Not this year, as I will be flying up to Seattle for the half marathon that weekend. I have done it in the past, though, and loved it. The trick is to not be so hung up on a particular deal...go to the mall around 9:30 or 10 in the morning. All the crazies who camped out at 3am are gone, and the people who slept in aren't there yet. Most of the clothing stores have their biggest sales set as "before noon" sales. So arriving in the 9:30 - 10 range, there aren't a gazillion people around but the stores aren't picked over and the deals are fantastic.

Thanks, John for doing this, and have a happy Turkey day!

Things you are grateful for this year: My family and my health. I'm especially grateful for the time my daughter and I have spent together without Dad for the last 3 yrs. We have a much stronger relationship because of it, and I'm going to be proud and sad when she leaves for college next Fall.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year: I've been pretty much injury free and I'm running faster times than I did when I turned 40, and I'll be 50 in just over a month.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get: My mom, our soldiers, our public servants i.e. police, fire, EMTs (not our politicians!)

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day? My friend Linda's house after running the Atlanta half marathon

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions? Running the Atlanta Half Marathon with 13000 of my closest friends and then celebrating with a glass of wine and my homemade apple pie.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving? Stuffing and my homemade apple pie. Did I mention the apple pie that I make from scratch?

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold? None for me - that is the beauty of going to a friends house. Of course, I will also make a small pie for us.

Black Friday shopping? Only if my daughter and/or hubby wants to go, but we will only go to the mall within normal hours none of that midnight stuff for me. There is nothing I want or need that bad. I need to divest of stuff as we are downsizing from 5000 sq ft to 2100.

Things you are grateful for this year: My family and my health. No significant health issues this year for anyone in my family. Another granddaughter was also born this year.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year: First (and maybe last) 50 miler.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get: My wife for putting up with me, I probably don't tell her this enough.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day? At home with half of our kids and my mother-in-law

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions? The entire process of preparing the meal, watching football, and taking a nap.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving? Everything; turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, cauliflower with cheese sauce, turnips and carrots, pumpkin and apple pie

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold? Both

Black Friday shopping? You have to be kidding, all of my holiday shopping is done online.

Things you are grateful for this year: Health, friendships and what a cool, smart kid my son is becoming.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year: That I was able to step away from my old routine and try something completely different.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get: My wife, who at the moment is probably slogging outside in the wind and rain (sans umbrella) as a paraeducator working one-on-one with a severely disabled high school student.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day? At my stepmom's in Eugene.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions? Getting together with family and enjoying a good meal together.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving? Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes. It's a shame that we only eat this sort of food one or two times a year. It's so good!

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold? Both! Often cold if on a sandwich, but more often reheated with other dishes.

Black Friday shopping? No thank you! Too many people!

Thanks John. I really miss the Friday thread every week.

Things you are grateful for this year: That I am healthy enough to help daughter with wedding plans including a whirlwhind dress shopping trip. That despite the ridiculous cost of medical care we have enough to pay the bills including helping with the wedding and still have enough left over to fly my son and family home for Christmas

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year: Doesn't sound like much but I'm pretty thankful for being able to get through 12 miles a week.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get: the families of our armed forces personnel, they give up so much

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day? our house with a full table of family

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions? we play games in between dinner and dessert, recently that is a wii family bowling tournament with 4 or 5 people on a team bowling a couple of frames each. Lots of trash talking and joking involved. We are a competitive family.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving? I love turkey breast but we eat it all year long so I enjoy the things we don't eat often more, like stuffing, green bean casserole, this awesome cheese potato casserole my sister makes, red cabbage and apples, and pumpkin pie with cinnamon icecream

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold? both, cold turkey sandwich at Friday lunch in the middle of hanging all the holiday decorations and then everything all warmed up Friday evening watching the IHSA football playoff games.

Black Friday shopping? nope, I'm just about done shopping. Friday is for Deck the Halls.

Things you are grateful for this year:

The health and happiness of my family and friends is more than I can ever ask for.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:

2011 wasn't a good year running-wise for me. I did get a PR in the half (1:24) and win a relay duathalon with one of my buddies but mostly it was a year of disappointing race results. You know what, that is too "glass is half empty". I'm grateful that I have been able to train without serious injury and that I still enjoy getting out there. Running Chicago with Schuey was a great highlight of the year, even if the race time was not.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:

My wife. Tolerating and even supporting all the craziness I bring into her life is a lot to ask of someone.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?

Turkey Trot and then at my brother's house.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?

The Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys playing NFL games. I still haven't gotten used to a 3rd game being added into the mix.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?

Eh on most of them. But I like making a volcano out of my mashed potatoes like that guy did in Close Encounters.

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?

I don't do leftovers.

Black Friday shopping?

Heck no. I'm always amazed to see news reports of people lining up at stores on midnight to then charge through the store to buy discounted crud.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year: I trained consistently (even if the results weren't the best).

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get: My husband

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day? Thanksgiving dinner is always at my house. This year, I'm breaking with my tradition of running a turkey trot, and going to hear my friend's son read Torah on Thursday morning. His bar mitzvah will be next month in Israel and we will have to miss it.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions? Turkey Trot. Delicious food. Family

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving? All the traditional Thanksgiving Day foods.

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold? Reheated

Things you are grateful for this year:
My youngest daughter is graduating from high school and going off to college (God willing)!!!!!

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:
As of yesterday, I completed two marathons this year, which I am very grateful for, but the biggest accomplishment would have to be running my first Boston Marathon.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:
There are so many things I wish I could thank my dad for. He's been gone for a long time.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?
At my step-daughter's house

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?
At some point during the day, we make it our business to listen to Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant"

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?

Hi John!!! Thanks for the comment, I've missed you all as well. Life has gotten in the way over the last couple of months....sorry I've been MIA.

Things you are grateful for this year:

My family and my friends. For our dog, for the gifts God has blessed me with. For the health of those that I love.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:

PR-ing in the 5K

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:
My hubby, who continues to support me even through my stubbornness.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?

Martin and I are celebrating Thanksgiving at home together

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?

Just sitting around with my family and having some really good wine and conversations. Of course, I love the relish trays. I mean, I seriously LOVE relish trays (the pickles and olives in particular Smile ).

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?
The relish tray, salad (my mom's - she makes the best salads in the world and I look forward to them every holiday we spend together), green bean casserole.

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?

Yuck. I - do - not - do - leftovers! Razz

Black Friday shopping?
HELL no. I don't get it and I'm not crazy enough to do it. I don't like shopping when it's not Black Friday. I digress....I went one time with my mom and my sister. Do not ask why, because I cannot tell you. Maybe I wanted to see what the intrigue was? Anyway, I was 20 years old and we went to Kohl's at 6am. As soon as we walked in, there were crazed women with strollers running around as if they had just won a $1 million dollar shopping spree but had 5 minutes to shop. Clothes flying all over the place, I'm being bumped around and I inevitably lose my mom and sister. I somehow made it to the women's clothing department and climbed into the center of a clothing rack. Once in my safe haven, I shouted for the nearest Kohl's associate and she came over. I asked if she would please request the my mom and sister meet me in said department. I gave her their names and she announced, "will X and X please meet Lisa in the women's department?". About 10 minutes later (that felt like an hour) they come and I said, "we need to go and now. I'm not staying". I haven't been back out the day after Thanksgiving and I'm now 34.

Good idea Seth John! and Julie!

Things you are grateful for this year:
I'm thankful for my cute, sweet grandson and great kids and son-in-law, super husband, and awesome friends and family. Also, grateful that my sisters freaked out on my mole this summer that was melanoma but caught very early! Wake-up call. Happy to have great jobs too!

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year: I ramped up to Int II and had a very successful training cycle, even though my marathon didn't pan out. I set one PR this year, in the 15K.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:
My mom for sure. Second to that would be my husband.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day? My house which will be overflowing with my kids and my best friends and their families!

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions? Cooking the traditional meal; playing games; running the Turkey Trot; just sitting back and enjoying being together!

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving? I love it all, stuffing and gravy and pie and rolls and.....

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold? Cold Turkey sandwich with mayo!

Black Friday shopping? ABsolutely no way in hell! I am like Lisa, I don't like to shop on a June morning when it is dead in the store! Internet, please!

Things you are grateful for this year:

Outside of family, this board. There is just no way I would have gotten to where I am running without the advice from everyone here.

Biggest running related accomplishment that you are grateful for so far this year:

The fact that I’ve gotten to a point where I can say I’m going for a BQ next year which was not even dream but a fantasy even at the beginning of the year.

Person(s) who you know that deserves more thanks than they get:

My mom. Whenever I visit she always makes whatever I want.

Where will you be on Thanksgiving day?

At home.

Favorite Thanksgiving traditions?

Going for a run so that I can eat way more than I should.

What are your favorite foods on Thanksgiving?

Turkey and apple pie.

Turkey leftovers reheated or cold?

The only thing leftover is the turkey and I’ll eat that cold.

Black Friday shopping?

Only online if I do anything. No way I’m dealing with that.

Black Friday shopping? I really hate it but the kids might drag me out . I stand in line then they go buy all the bargains .It's kinda bad but I tolerate it for them. I really hate shopping as well:)
