Good luck in the half this weekend.
I know...the recovery runs have come a long way since the beginning of this cycle.

5 miles...
5 easy miles tonight. Not much effort in tonight's run...kind of relaxing and just "one with the run"...Geesh, I sound like Kenny Anyways, I put in the miles tonight and am ready to move onto the next run. Overall, 5.25 miles at a cool 7:32 pace.

8 miles...
8 miles today and it definitely felt like fall with the high struggling to reach 60. We actually have a frost advisory tonight!!! Typical Wisconsin weather...it was 87 on Monday and now we are facing a frost advisory.
Anyways...I think that my legs are sensing a race coming up soon, because I got 2 miles into my run and my pace was in the mid 7:20s. They just wanted to go tonight and I felt like I really was not over exerting myself. So, I made a decision on the fly to turn the run into a tempo run. I continued on picking up the pace...dropping it all the way down to 6:41. I finished the run feeling like I really did not exert that much energy. Overall, I ran 8:58 miles at a 7:08 pace...yes...a 7:08 pace. This was a definite confidence booster for me. Just knowing that I completed this run and still felt like I could put in a lot more miles, gives me the confidence that I have put in some good work this cycle. Even though, for the first time, I had a few niggles here and there. Like Schuey's link that he posted, I am looking to peak, not taper...

You are going to do awesome on Sunday! And really do great at Steamtown, too. Good training and I'm glad you realize it's going so well. Remember all this in a few weeks if that "not tapering but peaking" still leaves you with doubts.

Nice job on that run, Nick. I had a cooler run yesterday and ran at what should have been a GA pace, but the HR was in the easy range.

Hill training...
I hit the hill tonight to get in some repeats. I started out with two miles to warm up and then got to work on the repeats. I did 8 x 400m hill repeats on a pretty decent grade. I wanted to focus on downhill running, so I did 5 down and 3 up. Hills are always fun...and I mean that sarcastically. But don't get me wrong, it was a great workout.

I stay at a friends place in Menasha. He is the one that originally talked me into running this race. Let me know if you want to meet up prior to to the race ande maybe I can give you some pointers on the course.
