30 miles on the treadmill
It was 11 degrees w/ a wind chill of -5 this morning. I had a 30 miler planned, but that is just too darn cold for me to run for 4+ hrs. outside. I'm a wimp, so I ran the 30 miles on the treadmill at the gym. Took about 4hr20min. No, there are no time limits on the cardio machines. I was "that girl" at the gym w/ my Powerade, Bodyglide, and granola bars stashed on the console. Wasn't so bad b/c there are tvs on each treadmill and you can hook up your Ipod so I listened to a few Marathon Talk podcasts. I could use a nap and then some wine

Re: 30 miles on the treadmill
Nice job, I'm also near Chicago and didn't want to do a run outside. But my 15 seems like nothing compared to 30.

Wow! It's about -15 wind chill here in Nebraska, too, and I just did a workout dvd inside. Long run outside tomorrow. I am losing toughness points.

That's a damn good pace. Nice job toughing through that one. Are you training for a 50? 100?
Re: 30 miles on the treadmill
Are you insane????? I think I would have gone postal at 18.
Seriously, nice job. What are you training for? You are putting in some impressive mileage - something I just cannot seem to do.

Re: 30 miles on the treadmill
lol, not insane. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and getting the same result. I admit I'm a bit crazy...or extreme. However, I do have a group of ultra friends who don't blink an eye at such workouts.
I'm training for the Ice Age 50 Mile in May. I'm running Boston 4 weeks out and Big Sur 2 weeks out as well. A little ambitious, I know, but I love to challenge myself. Doing this high milage (80+ mpw) was a gradual progression. For my first 50, I only ran about 50 mpw - but I was getting over an injury.

Re: 30 miles on the treadmill
Learning how to withstand 30 miles on a treadmill will prepare you well for extra-long races.
Now, all you need is to do a treadmill run like that with the lights out, and you'll be ready to try for a 100!

HA. Build a plywood box around it and crank a space heater up to 120 and you'll be ready for Badwater.
Re: 30 miles on the treadmill
Well, I'll see you at Boston as I bet we are in the same corral, but probably won't be able to keep up with my measly 50 mile weeks I ran Big Sur in 2005 -awesome race. Would love to do it again some day.
