How to find a coach??
I was just reading Dave-O's comment on Canova training and possibly getting a coach. So a two part question: a) how do you go about finding a qualified coach and b) for those of you who have used coaches, is it worth it?

Re: How to find a coach??
Yes, it is worth it. I run for the local track club currently in Atlanta and use a coach from here, but when I last lived in Cleveland I did use Greg McMillan's services to see if I liked working with a coach. Believe it or not, he read my emails and tailored a program that got me a 3:35 marathon at the flying Pig back in 2004 when I had not had much success (in recent years) and had a real suckfest at Boston that year (it was hot, but I was also self-coached trying to run like I was 30, not 42). Usually a local running store can refer to you known running groups and running coaches as well.
Re: How to find a coach??
Most local running clubs or running stores are associated with a coach that provides services for local runners. I would start there.

I want Dave to coach me... but he thinks I am uncoachable.

That hasn't stopped him from coaching me. If I always stayed on track and followed the program, his life would be too easy.

No, but he deals with me and I'm constantly falling apart, so you should be an improvement on that!

I haven't, and it seems everyone I coach lately ends up hurt.

I learned and improved by just watching, so I think some of your apprentices are just lack of talent.
Btw, I read Brad Hudson's Run Faster the 2nd time and start to get some sense.

Does this mean Chris is injured? He's been very tight-lipped about his training

Nope, Chris is healthy and training for Boston with my assistance. He's chosen not to blog this cycle, though, so I'll let him chime in if he wants to.
Re: How to find a coach??
I've been quiet but I'm most definitely training. Next goal race is Boston in April. But I've been doing all the workouts/runs/weeks Dave gives me and lately I've been entering races (5K, full, half) and doing them as workouts.Dave-O wrote:JohnP wrote:
