1. Washington or Lincoln? Washington, but they are both great Americans.

2. Team Edward or Team Jacob? ?

3. More Taste or Less Filling? Less filling until I lose 30 pounds.

OK, enough of that, and on to some running preferences:

4. Minimalist/Barefoot or Full Cushion or ??? Full cushion always.

5. Big Race or Small Race? Like them both.

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion? I don't need a HR monitor to tell me how hard I am pushing it.

7. Socks or No Socks? Socks for running. Not for cycling.

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)? Not the night before but any other night, game on!

9. Water or Gatorade? Water, but Gatorade is a neccessary evil.

10. Road or Trail? Road, too injury prone for trail running.

FYI: The official title of this day is "Washington's Birthday". "President's Day" was considered by congress back in the 1960's but didn't make the cut. Now it is used by stores and such to promote sales. Useless trivia, unless I read wrong. Then, never mind. Now I have to get back to my day off.

5. Big Race or Small Race? I have done both, but like the larger races

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion? HR monitor

7. Socks or No Socks? Socks

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)? I saw somewhere that it has been proven that having sex prior to physical activity increases the performance of that physical activity.

9. Water or Gatorade? Both...I keep a 3/1 ratio of water to Gatorade when racing.

10. Road or Trail? I like both

1. Washington or Lincoln? Lincoln, since I'm originally from Illinois (although he wasn't!). Thanks to Jim for the interesting aside regarding the correct name of this federal holiday - he's absolutely right, see 5 U.S.C. Section 6103!

2. Team Edward or Team Jacob? I was sort of hoping that the bad vampires would kill them all so I didn't have to read the next book.

3. More Taste or Less Filling? Soda pop for me.

OK, enough of that, and on to some running preferences:

4. Minimalist/Barefoot or Full Cushion or ??? Bring on all the cushion I can get!

5. Big Race or Small Race? I've found I really prefer the little ones, by a lot.

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion? Although I have a HR monitor, I almost never use it. I do like screwing around with it on occasion, but it's too much data for my typical workout.

7. Socks or No Socks? Socks for sure, I can't deal with no socks.

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)? Sex is good.

9. Water or Gatorade? I've gone back and forth on this. In marathons, I'll take the gatorade unless I'm about to take a gel. In training, I tend to stick with the water.

10. Road or Trail? I run a lot on a relatively primitive rail-to-trail, and sometimes do short diversions onto "real" trails, but for the most part consider myself a road runner.

I'm supposed to be working, but if you have the day off - Enjoy!

1. Washington or Lincoln? Lincoln

2. Team Edward or Team Jacob? Not a 15 year old girl, so I have no idea nor do I care!

3. More Taste or Less Filling? A micro/craft beer with real flavor

OK, enough of that, and on to some running preferences:

4. Minimalist/Barefoot or Full Cushion or ??? Somewhere in between

5. Big Race or Small Race? Big

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion? The HR monitor never lies! It can be tricked, but it never lies.

7. Socks or No Socks? Socks

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)? As Austin Powers would say "Yes, please!"

9. Water or Gatorade? Both

10. Road or Trail? Mostly road, but the trail is great from time to time.

So that 198 reading I got in the first 0.5 mile of a recovery run was true? I think I need to see a cardiologist then. Wink

4. Minimalist/Barefoot or Full Cushion or ??? Cushion.

5. Big Race or Small Race? There is a time and place for both, though I've been liking the smaller ones as of late.

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion? Perceived Exertion

7. Socks or No Socks? Socks, but would think about no socks if I could figure out how not to get blisters.

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)? I'll take it.

9. Water or Gatorade? Water

10. Road or Trail? Love them both, but for serious training, gotta stick with the road.

Hey, I said it could be tricked. But it didn't lie! Also, your max HR could be like 300. That's a plausible explanation too I think.

1. Washington or Lincoln?
Jefferson, because I'm going on a romantic outing to his memorial tonight as part of my last night here.

2. Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Team Becca - from a spoof on the series, called "Vampires Suck." The actress is a friend from high school.

3. More Taste or Less Filling?
More taste.

4. Minimalist/Barefoot or Full Cushion or ???
Barefoot in thought, cushion in practice.

5. Big Race or Small Race?
Big for marathons, small for trails.

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion?
Yes.

7. Socks or No Socks?
Socks.

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)?
Never done it, but probably would. Rather calm the nerves than have the "pent-up energy." Yes, I'm talking about the night before a race, not in general.

9. Water or Gatorade?
Agua.

10. Road or Trail?
Yes.

1. Washington or Lincoln?

Lincoln - he's always been one of my favorite presidents.

2. Team Edward or Team Jacob?

no idea what that is

3. More Taste or Less Filling?

ETA : didn't realize this was an alcohol reference, in food, in general, I'd choose the more taste, but I have a temperance household.

OK, enough of that, and on to some running preferences:

4. Minimalist/Barefoot or Full Cushion or ???

non-minimalist

5. Big Race or Small Race?

small, lower entry fees, nice small-town feel sometimes, more quiet time to just zone out and think, instead of people telling you you're almost done at mile 21. (although sometimes that is energizing, not complaining).

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion?

I listen to my body

7. Socks or No Socks?

socks

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)?

In a hotel with my little girl sharing the room? I'll abstain.

9. Water or Gatorade?

water, gatorade is on my list of "drinks that might bother my stomach" so I just drink water and eat pretzels.

10. Road or Trail?

road

Thanks Michael, for starting this.

Small

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion?
HR monitor (perceptions are deceiving)

1. Washington or Lincoln?
Since I'm from Illinois, the land of Lincoln, this is an easy one - Lincoln.

2. Team Edward or Team Jacob?
I've only seen two of those movies. I guess Jacob, he doesn't look as strange.

3. More Taste or Less Filling?
More taste

OK, enough of that, and on to some running preferences:

4. Minimalist/Barefoot or Full Cushion or ???
I am working my way down from motion control to stability to cushioned. Currently trying some lighter-weight shoes like the Ghost. It just takes time, my legs/ankles/shins seem very sensitive to this

5. Big Race or Small Race?
Definitely smaller - the big ones, it's just so congested, though that's typically what I wind up running. Though I have done a marathon with under 100 people. There I was worried I would wander off course as no one was near me.

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion?
Neither - I run by pace no matter the HR or exertion. THe only time I slow or speed up is if the HR gets out of control (too high) and I have to.

7. Socks or No Socks?
Socks. Without them I blister right away.

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)?
Hmmm, not sure.

9. Water or Gatorade?
Gatorade (except water with Gu)

10. Road or Trail?
There are no trails around me so it's the road. me and a bunch of cars. I wish there were trails near-by that I didn't have to drive to.

6. HR Monitor or Perceived Exertion? Both. I go by perceived exertion but I wear the HR monitor to record the data.

7. Socks or No Socks? I didn't always agree with Mr. Clinton, but Socks was OK in my book.

8. Sex or No Sex (I'm thinking the night before the race, but Hal's not here, so have at it!)? OK, but I'm a sheltered Baptist boy so I'm not sure what a sexcapade might entail.
