Pre-Race Massage
I've never done it and I'd like to give it a try before next Saturday's 5k. When is the best time to for it?
Tentatively I have my last workout planned for Tuesday, then three easy days (Wed Thurs, Fri) before the race on Saturday.
Should I get one on Sunday or Monday, and if so, would that affect Tuesday's workout?
Would Saturday be better?
I doubt waiting until Wednesday would be advisable, right?

Re: Pre-Race Massage
I would actually get mine on the Wednesday and make sure you tell your therapist that you want a pre-race massage. If they are used to working with athletes, they'll know what to do.
I must admit that I will often get one 2 days before a longer race as that works well for me.

Re: Pre-Race Massage
I do mine the day before the race, or the day I fly out for an out of town race. I just think it allows any crap to get out of the muscles before race day. YMMV.

Re: Pre-Race Massage
I would say 2-3 days prior to the race for a sports massage. If you are planning to get a deep tissue message, I would say 5 day is suffice, as your body will need more time to recover.

Re: Pre-Race Massage
2 days before is ideal IMO. I used to get them before every marathon and after as well as before long runs. I can't say it helped any more than not getting them but it feels dam good.
Reason I prefer 2 days before is because it can bring out the toxins in your body and there is a chance of not feeling 100% the next day. Like you are getting a cold.

2-3 days before is ideal. Even within hours of the last workout would be good too.
