I'm running a 5K on the 31st and in the first mile is a 180 degree right-hand turn on a curbed street. Should the proper method of attack be to stay as close to the curb as I can, then line up for the next tangent after the turn? Much obliged.

There should be no 'proper method' for a 180 turn in a 5k... 'cause there shouldn't be a 180 turn in a 5k!

Shocked

I once took a 180-degree turn in a 5K, slipped on ice, and face-planted.

A 180 in a 5K, geez. I would treat it like a 200m race on the track where the further out in lanes you start the faster you'll stay.

The proper method of attack would be to head into the 180 as tight to the cones as you can safely (think inside lane), slowing as needed, stay tight around the cone(s) and accelerate out of the turn directly toward then next tangent.

The proper method is to set up a lawn chair on the curb, spread something slippery on the ground around the cone at the turnaround point, sit back with a beer and watch the carnage.
