Boston and its Aftermath

M - 26.5mi from Hopkinton to Boston; probably a good 2 miles of walking, too, but we're runners and don't count that (unless it's in an ultra)
T - off; travel to DC
W - off; sleep
Th - 3mi recovery; hilarious, hobbling start, loosened up to something resembling a recovery run
F - 3mi recovery; broken into 2x 1.5mi with about 1mi walking between at the National Arboretum with Aileen
S - 3mi recovery; broken into 2x 1.5mi with a 10min line to use the restrooms at Union Station (c'mon, people) with Aileen
S - off; travel to Sac

Week - 35.5mi in just over 5hr
YTD - 597mi

Hmm, almost a week after Boston, and I'm feeling pretty normal. It is also only 57F here in the ATL - yes, that is 57 not 75.

M - 26.7 miles according to my Garmin. Must have been the side jaunts through the mist tunnels at that little race called Boston
T - Day off, return home
W - Day off, raining and cold. Lot's of stretching
Th - 3 miles run/walk. Must have looked really funny as I know I was hobbling quite a bit
F - 6 miles with my regular Friday group. Felt pretty normal by the end
S - 3 mile recovery run at my daughter's school over the new, hilly XC trail
S - Day off. Travel to Houston for a meeting tomorrow.

Week - 38.2 miles
YTD - 692

Well, had a bad cold all week including at Boston (Started Sunday afternoon).

Mon - 26.2 - Fast, then slow, then slower, then it was finally done... Hottest temps I have ever ran a race in, being at less than 100% Lung capacity didn't help.
Tue - Some tourist stuff, coughing up a lung
Wed - Desk / Bed Ridden - Sick as a dog
Thu - Desk / Bed Ridden - Could barely drive to work.
Fri - Getting better, not good but better
Sat - 4 miles, 5K Cross Country Race, ran pretty easy 20:00, 4th OA, 1st AG (Still coughing, but the body feels OK)
Sun - 10.3 Miles, Easy Progressive 8:20 --> 7:50 (Still coughing, but OK)

Week: 40.5
YTD: 849

Boston was a bust, but the weather never was going to let me run a race that I would have been happy about. I stupidly gave it a go, but hey it was still an experience.

Nice picture Kevin!

Nice to see you bouncing back after Boston Mike and Michele.

Gobbles - you are nuts - in spite of everything and your CDC episode you had a good Boston race and then run a race on Saturday? I know 20 minutes is easy for you under normal circumstances but still.....

wrichman - speaking of nuts..... Impressed as always..

Mark the barefoot bandito - you are looking strong as well!

As for me, I got the green light to begin sloooooowly coming back into things - this was week one of what I figure will be a 2-month ramp up and was really sort of a testing the waters type of thing...
Monday - It was my birthday and I couldn't stand it anymore, so I cheated and went for a bike ride - first one in some time. 22.24 miles, 1:02:21, 21.3 mph
Tuesday - Monday wasn't so bad, so I cycled 49.1 miles in 2:31:29 at 19.5 mph. Ouch. Avg HR 140 and bonking hard by the end
Wed - Did a 2.5 mile open water swim with a buddy (Lake Blackshear - an impoundment of the Flint River). Easily paced at 28:48/mile
Thursday - off due to work
Friday - Got to RUN (well, sort of run). First time in over 2 months. 5 minute jog, 5 minute walk, repeat. 3.13 miles, 10:11 pace
Saturday - cycled 47.3 miles at 19.4 miles. Felt MUCH MUCH easier with an avg HR or 129. I've lost a LOT of speed and endurance, but I can work on that...
Sunday - did another "run" at 7 run, 3 walk, repeat. 3.99 miles, 8:29 avg pace. Need to slow that down for the time being so I will work on that.

Thank you God for healing of broken bones! It looked awesome on the X-ray but the word from my Dr. was that it wasn't completely healed yet (mostly so), so no real speed work for a while and nothing too high intensity for a while. For a return to running, I am following this: http://pfitzinger.com/labreports/stressfracture.shtml - it seems awful conservative, but I really can't afford another hiccup as my ironman training was officially start tomorrow and I am already behind the 8ball.

Cheers!

Mon - Bos and drinking
Tue - off - travel home
Wed - off - back to work
Thu - 4 recovery -- felt surprisingly good
Fri - off
Sat - 6 recovery - felt fine, but a bit tired
Sun - 8 @ 7:30 - last 4 in 7:25 - felt great - again a bit fatigued, but no soreness

Will probably do "The Qualifier" on May 20 in Midland, MI weather permitting. I have no intention of going out there unless the weather is conducive for a PR. One crappy weather marathon is enough. This one's only 90 min from home so no reason to suffer on purpose.

Week - 45

Nice pic, Kevin! Looks like Scott is eyeing that med tent already while you and I goof around on Boylston. There are some pretty funny ones of the 3 of us at MarathonFoto and I ordered the one of you and I post-race after we shipped his butt off to the doctors! Thanks again for kicking off your "Week in Running" by doing those miles with us Monday.

Hey, I should post in this thread more often. I'm always so stealthy...

Took a couple of days off and then played soccer and resumed normal running. Did a tempo today and I'm looking to try and PR at the Pittsburgh half that Dave and I will be going to in 2 weeks.
