What to wear in this weather?
Weather for Saturdays race in Illinois looks like 45-50 degrees (That is good), rain likely, thunderstorms maybe, with 15mph winds from the EAST. (not good)
Can't decide if I go with singlet and shorts or need tight s/s tech shirt and light vest. I'd ate to be to warm but then if it is a rough day and with those winds it might be hate to be freezing.
Taper madness came late this cycle.

Common Kenny this isn't your first dance. To me weather it is a good day bad day the choice should be easy. Singlet, shorts arm warmers and pair of throw away gloves to start with and headband for ears. That way the gloves and ear warmers can be tucked into your shorts in case you need them again later in the race. I have done that plenty of times on runs on the lakefront. I think you should be fine with that.

Re: What to wear in this weather?
Shorts, singlet, and a toss away shirt. If it is raining, I would start with a garbage bag over me and is tied at the waste. When I ran the Pig in 2004, it was cool and wet. I finished wearing just my singlet and shorts, but I started with along sleeve throw away shirt and garbage bag. I tossed the garbage bag at mile 5 and the shirt at mile 21, so I could get some pictures!

I know I know. Just don't like the uncertainty. I think the arm warmers might make sense with the wind and rain and earband which I can tuck might make good sense. I can probably do throw away gloves!
Ok Ok I am golden and PS: Garbage bag while waiting no doubt have that already packed.
Thanks!
Re: What to wear in this weather?
Well, I never thought I would disagree with Schuey in any day, but here it comes.
It really depends on one's cold tolerance. I am always afraid of cold and ran White Rock Marathon last December under pouring rain around 40.
I wore a wind breaker, which I regret cause it didn't fully block the rain. I chose it over the rain jacket because I thought I could put my hands in the sleeves, which I did, but it didn't help.
I was too cold that I forced myself to pick up the pace. No doubt I lost too much energy to battle the cold.
So if I do it again, I would try everything to keep my body warm knowing extra cloth would slow me down at some degree. To me, it worthy it.
You have to be your own judge. I know Scott Case will definitely go short and singlet.
Then of cause, I will not do it again. It sucks. I would rather run Chicago again.

One easy decision is to carry a shower cap for your head, even though it is not bald like Schuey or Jerry.

Re: What to wear in this weather?
Jerry rain heavy winds sucks with 45 degrees. Finding comfort will be hard.
Re: What to wear in this weather?
I'd wear:
Shorts
Socks/shoes
T-shirt (yeah, I know)
Arm warmers for the start
I'd pack:
Garbage bag
Extra socks
Rain shell
If it's really raining hard, go with the shell. If it's light, garbage bag.

I almost always wear singlet, shorts, socks and then a throw away long sleeved shirt if it's below 45 or so at the start. If it's cold you can always put socks or cheap gloves on your hands, too until you warm up.

Re: What to wear in this weather?
Don't forget throw away gloves if your hands get cold. I had them in Cincy as well and I tossed them with the long sleeve shirt (no arm warmers back then, just homemade ones using socks). Usually if my hands are warm, I'm good.
