Men's 10k Olympic Trials
The Track and Field trials kick off tomorrow. The event I'm most looking Forward to is the Mens 10k on Friday night - in large part because it's Ritzenhein's best chance to punch a ticket to London. Here's letsrun's preview:
http://www.letsrun.com/2012/rupp-0620.php
So, now for a contest of our own. Guess the top 3 in order. Anyone who gets it right will win a prize. If there is more than 1 winner, the prize I send to each will simply be of lesser value. In other words, you can tag along with someone else's guess, but it will cost you both.
My guess:
1. Rupp - simply better than the rest. He'll pull away in the last 800 with ease
2. Ritzenhein - rupp and Salazar will help him out and take the pace out under the 27:45 A standard
3. Teg - the 30 year old guts it out in a photo finish
Good luck!

Rupp, Curtis, Ritz (but it could be Derrick instead of Ritz...)

Rupp has the 5K too so I'm entirely sure he'll take them under the "A" standard that Ritz needs.
1. Rupp
2. Ritz
3. Derrick (not sure what he has left after NCAA)
Is this even televised?

The Men's 10k is at 6:45 pacific.
Television coverage on NBCSN is from 9-11 eastern (so 6-8 pacific). That tells me that both the men's and women's 10k will be shown live.

I'll go with Rupp, Chirlee, and Braun. Ritz lives to disappoint his fans...

Because I know nothing about professional running, I'm just picking the top 3 on the list.
Rupp, Curtis, and Nelson.

Is there a list somewhere of who's running in what events?

I can't explain why, but for a guy who ran nothing but distance and middle distance events (in my younger days), I can't even name the favorites in these events. When is the sprints and jumps contest thread coming out?

Thanks! Didn't find what I was looking for there because it's not listed yet, but I did dig it up:

1. Ritz
2. Rupp (but that's only because he carried teammate Ritz to an easy 'A' and jogged it in)
3. Curtis

Re: Men's 10k Olympic Trials
Edit: My original order was Rupp, Curtis and Ritz and while I think that is the order they will finish I want that prize since Dave B already picked that too! Now no copying my prediction Jerry!
Man, I really want Derrick to get in but I just don't see it after the long season he has already had.
So I'll go with:
Man, I really want Derrick to get in but I just don't see it after the long season he has already had.
So I'll go with:
- Rupp - it won't even be close if he actually races it. The big question is whether he paces Ritz.I actually think he will medal in London this year and snag a bronze behind Farah and an East African.
- Teg - Old man's last Olympic team. 13:15 tells me he's in good shape and he should have the best race tactics given his credentials.
- Ritz - OK, I'll buy in to the hype, again! I actually don't want to pick Ritz here but I think he will be able to hang with Rupp for all but a lap or two (when it's down to 3) and then barely hang on for third. But if he's not careful I definitely think Curtis, Vaughn or Braun will pass him with 100m to go.

Please explain your logic Alex as I would assume Rupp would selfishly want a slow race to save himself for the 5K??

And then I'm undecided. I'd Love for Teg to make it, but I dunno about this last chance. I feel the same about Rits even though I wore his gloves this winter when I needed them.

No chance. He's as much of a lock as you can get. He PR'd in both the 1,500m AND 5,000m this year already which shows he's speed is great right now. And don't forget he PRd in the 10,000m last September crushing the American record. 3 PRs since last September? Yeah, he's doing OK at the moment
But the real question is why is Alberto tinkering with his form NOW?!

There's been a lot of talk that Rupp will pace Ritz to an "A" standard because they're teammates and both have Salazar as coach. I don't agree with it because I don't think Rupp will want to take away from a loaded 5K that will be coming up.

If you pick Teg for third you'll have to split the prize with me.

If by "lose" you mean not win, Chris didn't pick Rupp to win.
And I agree. I see Rupp supporting his coach (which is different from supporting a teammate).

You know, I didn't think there was any way that Hall would finish anything but 1st in Houston. With little difference between 1st and 3rd, anything can happen.
