It's been feakin' hot!
I was in Cape May from Monday until today as I started my first week of 20 doing a custom McMillian plan. Mileage wise not overall heavy will top out at around 52 this week, but temps and humidity have been crazy!
For me this might be the hardest week of running that I can remember.
How is your week going so far?

Re: It's been feakin' hot!
Not bad. Low to mid-60s in the morning, high 70s to low 80s in the afternoon.
Re: It's been feakin' hot!
I've been doing OK, even running in the mid-90s. Two key items - slow the pace to match the heat, and do hard workouts on the TM. For some reason, running in the heat this time has not been too bad, mainly because I follow these two rules, and also drink a lot.

Re: It's been feakin' hot!
It's been really hot and humid here, too. It was 88 or something at 5:30 a.m. the other day (at least that's what my friend said, I think it was actually a little lower). But I'm still sticking with my plan. We should get a slight cool off in time for my 18 miler tomorrow. Now to get myself out the door for my run.
I have my ice water bottle with me on every run this summer even the 6 milers.

Re: It's been feakin' hot!
Just to be more of a turd: currently 6am, ~60 degrees, high along the coast during our century bike ride today is going to be 70 or so. 80 inland.
Re: It's been feakin' hot!
Yep, the weather really sucks around here too! I've been doing a lot of doubles to keep the miles up. My 2nd run on Thursday was a 7 miler in 101 degrees! Just ran conservatively on today's 13 miler; temp at the start was 80 with a dew point of 73! It was 90 when I finished. I have been able to average about 10 miles per day this summer with this plan....
By choice I don't race much during the summer. Maybe just a few low key races. I just don't like racing in the heat. Heck I haven't even attempted any fast stuff in these conditions. I'll probably start adding some tempos in a few weeks, if the weather allows it. But all the miles in these horrible conditions will pay off this Fall, just like all the crappy in the miles in the Winter, pay off in the Spring.

Re: It's been feakin' hot!
CARA, my marathon long run training group cancelled today's long run. Some of the slower groups could be out there until late morning in 90+ temps. We'll resume tomorrow when it's supposed to drop back to 70F's in the morning. It's been tough, but I get out by 6 am and finish in the mid 80F's. Done some treadmill for my recovery stuff when I'm doing core too, but have kept my training going. Heading to a picnic with a pool which will probably be packed.

Re: It's been feakin' hot!
It has been crazy hot here. I shuffled my long run this week until tomorrow when it will be cooler in the morning. I did a 6 miler on the indoor track at the gym this morning since it was already 95 degrees out when I got up!
Re: It's been feakin' hot!
Been hot & humid here, but not as bad as you folks in the midwest or further south (hasn't gotten above the mid-90s - dew points have been as high as the low 70s, with lots of 60s).
I've been sweating like a pig every run.
Today, on my 16 miler, I felt surprisingly good. Well, except the part where I fell down!
But the fall was not heat-related. Just a klutz.

I'm a group leader at the Montrose site. A small group of us ran 14 at 6:30 - it actually felt cooler towards the end of the run with a nice breeze. I did 20 total, and felt good the whole time. Avg. an 8:33 min/mile pace. total sweat fest. The hydration stations were out there, and a good amount of runners as well. The Aids Charity team was out there. It wasn't as hot as I thought it'd be - they could have done the run. I may join tomorrow as well. Depends on how much I drink tonight

Re: It's been feakin' hot!
Not as hot here in western NY as the rest of the area (including Erie, PA and Buffalo), but we are at elevation which saves us a bit. That being said, high 80s with humidity to equal that is not anyone's cup of tea and many of the buildings, etc are either partially outdoors (open amphitheather) or without A/C. I know I'm doing ok as I came here from the ATL, but it is still quite nasty!
Re: It's been feakin' hot!
Yep it has been pretty hot but oh well I got all my runs in this week. All I know is when the temps drop it sure will feel good. Actually felt good on my evening run tonight. 76 degrees, 67 dew point and very wind oh how refreshing!
Steve maybe I will see you tomorrow morning!

Not here. Good summer to be in the mountains.
57°F/14°C to 5855 ft elev at the top of the mountain on Thursday.
I prefer elevation to heat any day ... as a training stressor, that is! He he.

Re: It's been feakin' hot!
I'm happy to report that our temps have been seasonal (low 90's) for highs, with some days in the 80's due to rain. Lows between 75 and 78. We're about 3 inches ahead of average for rain.
Last year, we were in the middle of what the East Coast has been having the past few days. But take heart! Like kidney stones, this too shall pass.
