I just got signed up for an amazing trip in January to Poland. I will be in a group of 60, traveling with Holocaust survivor, Eva Kor. She is one of the "Mengele twins" who were experimented on in Auschwitz by the infamous Dr. Mengele. She and her sister survived (her sister has passed away though not too many years ago) and Eva established the CANDLES museum in Terre Haute, where I met her several years ago. “CANDLES” is an acronym for Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors. Eva Kor chose “CANDLES” because she wishes to shed light on this chapter of the Holocaust. She takes groups each year in the summer to Auschwitz, but this trip is special. It will be the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Eva will be one of the speakers at the main ceremony. We leave on January 24 and return a week later. I have always wanted to do go with Eva and I felt this was the time to go. Eva teaches thousands of students each year about the Holocaust and her message of forgiveness. It will be trip to remember.

When I met Eva a few summers ago, I told her I was a twin - fraternal - and that there were two sets in my family, 6 years apart.
I did not know Mengele "experimented" on both identical and fraternal twins.
She looked up at me and said "Oh, Charles, Dr. Mengele would have liked to have met you!"
It was very chilling to hear that from a Mengele survivor.

This her Holcaust museum web site - it is in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Very cool, Charles.  There is a holocaust museum in Atlanta http://www.thebreman.org/ as many of the children who escaped actually were sent to GA and AL.  One of the docents is one such survivor who came over on a ship from Lisbon, Portugal before things really got going.  His siblings, with the exception of a younger brother who was only 18 mos, all survived with him, but they came to the states with no other relatives and their parents perished.  I have been to Dacau, and it was/is creepy and fascinating all in one.  What an incredible experience I expect this to be.  Wow.

I remember you telling me that story, Charles. Going there is going to be putting chills up your spine, knowing just how "special" you'd be to Mengele. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it.
