My first time really spectating a running event. It's a Double Half Marathon--one tomorrow and one Sunday. There might be about 200 runners.

Ideas for signs?

I thought one for Sunday might say....Didn't I do this YESTERDAY? or Deja Vu

What's your favorite sign to see on the sidelines?

One of our favorites at Portland last weekend was a huge white sign that said...

If the crowd will have some college/post-college runners, internet memes are always fun. I mean, I'd get a kick out of them, anyway.

At the Boilermaker 15K in Utica, there is a sign at the 0.3 mile mark (every year I understand for at least the last 25), that says, "9 miles to go". Gets me laughing every time. Kind of like the sign that says "Entering Brookline" at the 3 mile mark in Boston (Brookline doesn't appear on the course until mile 23).

Have fun doing this, Peg.

I can't remember the exact wording but it was funny something like "you think you're tired, my arms are sore holding this sign" or something like that. Anything to put a smile on their faces, I figure.

At Chicago on Sunday I saw someone holding a sign that said "I'm very proud of you, random stranger!" that made me chuckle.

Had a friend at Chicago a couple years ago that held a sign that said, "Run You Bitches!"

Got a lot of laughs and comments (one not so good) about that one.

Good one!

I ended up with 4 signs on paper sacks that I will just set out and weight down:

What took you so long?
10 mile warm up done--5K starts now.
Longest. Mile. Ever. (at mile one)
Almost there! (at mile 0.1)

and on 2 posters (one that I am hanging on some landscaping fence and one to hold front or back depending)

I trained 6 months to make this sign. (really)
There's a Zombie behind you!
Chafe now--Brag later

That was a lot of work! I have some patio bricks to weigh down the sacks. I just need someone to take the one to mile 3 for me--there should be some vehicle or bicycle running around. I have one blank side on one poster if I come up with anything else.

1 mile to go, I think! I just thought of this one. Has anybody else heard this lady yell, "one mile to go," just past the 24 mile marker in Chicago? I swear every year I hear this, arrrggghhh!

I saw it at Grandmas 2011. Maybe it was the same Minnesotan at both races.
