PF or something else?

Post  mul21 on Thu Dec 13, 2012 1:23 am

I have a "hot spot", for lack of a better term, on the bottom of my foot at the very back of my arch right where the callous of my heel ends. It's really localized to the one spot and I can't seem to massage it out. Does that sound like PF or am I dealing with something completely different?

It sounds like PF to me. I've never really had it but I've worked on Wendy's quite a lot. She often times says it feels like a rusty nail that's been driven into her heel. If you massage around that area and up the tendon toward your toes, does it feel crunchy? If you massage that out on a regular basis it will help. When I start to have signs of PF I start rolling my foot on a frozen can after my runs.

Could very well be. I had a weird bruising feeling on the flat of my heel right where it meets the connection of the arch if that makes sense. It felt like a stone bruise. I was diagnosed with PF and used both a footlog (www.footlog.com), tennis ball when I had that available to really dig in there and did foot stretches by pulling back on my toes with my hand to really stretch the entire bottom of the foot (hold for count of 30, repeat 3 times, 3 x per day).

Many times you need to start going up the ladder. I also did some heel dips to stretch out the calf so that all the fascia connections were getting a stretch. Foam rolling the calf is good too.

Just trying to save you on PT bills.

No idea. In case it is PF, here is a website with the exercises.

Sounds like PF to me, and Dot's advice is excellent. Roll and stretch the calf, and stretching the foot by pulling back on the toes always worked for me. You can also do it by standing and lifting the heel of the affected foot until you feel a stretch in the sole of the foot (same thing as Dot's stretch but may be easier to hold).

Sounds like PF to me. In addition to the stretches already mentioned, I also found stretching my calves as another effective way to deal with PF. My therapist pointed out tight calves can cause or contribute to PF.

It's probably your gall bladder.

I agree with above - sounds like PF. If it persists for more than a week, I'd go to sports MD or podiatrist and get it checked out to be safe.
