Awesome job!  The weather was just perfect for a PR/BQ/good race, whatever!  I'm thrilled that Indy was able to delivery today!  What did you think of the course?  Rolling enough?

I really liked the course Dot, just enough roll. Weather was great too.  Will give full report when I am back home as I really do not type well on my IPad.

Report is up in the Race report section.  Feeling pretty good today and I'm not real sore at all. That is a major accomplishment in itself!

Funny thing is that my Age Graded time is: 3:12:58 which is really the time that I would have run when I was 30.  I'm feeling pretty young now!

Didn't you say a while back that the 50's were the new 30's.  You just proved it!

Well, I'm really shocked at how well I have bounced back.  Granted I only ran 3x this week and I was almost regretting turning around today and only running 6 miles, but I know that even when you feel great, you still need recovery time.  For the first time I can remember, nothing really hurts - not my quads, not my hamstrings, not my glutes - nothing.  I will attribute a lot of it to my weights/core routine and my actually sticking to it this time.  It is nice to know that I can go to Tucson in December and simply have fun for 26.2 miles as Boston training really will not start in earnest until the end of December.  I am already looking at races for the spring lead up to Boston and I think I'll go down and run my (2nd) favorite half in Atlanta on March 23rd.  The Publix half course is a hilly, challenging 13.1 and it always lets me know where I am at training-wise.  Let's just hope the weather isn't too warm and/or humid as it can be.  I expect to have to do some indoor speed training this winter, so I hope that will help.

It is still penciled into my schedule, but my husband is a bit more skeptical - he can't imagine why he wants to see Hayward field or visit Pre's run?  I'm working on it.  I need Washington state too - isn't there a marathon in Vancouver (WA).

If hubby has never been to the Pacific Northwest, you may have a tough time getting him back home. Smile

The Vancouver USA Marathon is June 15 (website). I've never run it, but it seems like a pretty well-regarded race. Bart Yasso seems to love it.

Oh no, we have been to Seattle, Portland, Spokane, Moses Lake, Yakima, Mt. Hood, Seaside, Victoria (BC) and Vancouver (BC) many times and would go again in a heartbeat.  He just doesn't get the appeal of Eugene Wink

Hmm, June 15th is actually a way better fit for my calendar........

Ah. Well, as someone who grew up there, I'm probably biased. But I'd say that Eugene IS Oregon.

Tell him he can go laugh at the hippies.

Not that Vancouver would be a bad choice...

We will see, Mark.  Eugene to me is as much of a mecca as Boston.

Just want to add that it is supposed to SNOW tonight, yes, SNOW.  I will believe it when I see it, and being near the lake, I'm guessing we only get squalls - but dang, it is only November 11th.  Not that happy about it as it is 30F right now.  Maybe I'm glad to be in recovery mode as I only took my core class this morning and nothing for the rest of the day is in order.

We are suppose to get rain and snow showers today, too.  Although, I do not think that anything is supposed to stick.

Y'alls cold front is to blow through Houston Tuesday after lunch.  This will give us Wednesday and Thursday morning lows in the mid-30s with a 15-25 mph wind.

I believe Atlanta gets into the 20's?

I ran several mornings in Atlanta with temps in the teens, but it never lasted long.  We are set here in NE OH for a winter of teens and 20s.

Re: Indianapolis 500

Post  Michele "1L" Keane on Mon Nov 18, 2013 10:40 am

Good lazy week as I am still supposed to be in recovery mode.  Probably good that I didn't put in a ton of miles as I have been fighting a cold for the last three weeks and it finally manifested itself.  It kept me a bit under the weather for the weekend, but I am feeling better today although I think I will take another day off.

My summer running friend got here BQ yesterday in Philly (3:47), so now neither of us need to stress in Tucson and we can just have fun.  She has never done two marathons this close together and I told her to switch to the half and run with her daughter and son, but we will see what she decides.  I'm just glad that she didn't decide not to come at all.  Funny that she called on Thursday to ask advice about Philly and I still thought it was this coming weekend.  She was planning on 21 miles with the first few slower and the next 10-12 at MP, and I told her that if she felt good at 21 (where her daughter and sister were working the water stop) to go for it.  She said she knew at 21 that she could do it and her daughter jumped in and ran the last 5 miles with her - and she did it.  It is great since her last two attempts were the warm Chicago in 2007 and a warm Buffalo in 2010 where she decided to just run the half.  Not really sure if we have any plan for Tucson now other than run.  I might not even wear my watch although I should have my new 620 by then and it would be fun to have data.  No watch would also just put me into the run by feel mode though which might actually be better.  I might even try to talk her into running the marathon relay with her daughter instead of the full as she will still be recovering and has never done the short turn around thing.

Recap of the week:

Mon - Day off; core class
Tues - 4.5 miles easy; Weights
Wed - 3.5 miles recovery; core class
Thurs- 6 miles easy
Fri - Weights
Sat - 8 miles
Sun - 3 miles

WTD:  25 miles

YTD: 1544

Congrats you to your friend! To turn a supported long run into a BQ is a nifty trick! Smile

Hope the cold clears out of your system soon. There are several very annoying viruses circulating this year.

+1.  As I get older, I don't find that a cold or virus lasts any longer than 10 years ago.

As for your friend, that's a potentially great mindset for keeping the jitters down by going into a race to just run, then determine a BQ is possible.  I'm a long way from that.Crying or Very sad

Re: Indianapolis 500

Post  Michele "1L" Keane on Wed Nov 20, 2013 7:43 pm

Well, I see everyone is closing up their blogs but I still have one more race left  - Tucson - for the year, so I will keep it open until then.  Because after that, it is Boston training time. The more I assess (obsess) over my race in Indy, I realize how much I might have left on the course.  I'd like to see if I can convince myself to go for it, but I'm also frightened of the crash and burn having been there so many times before.  I guess we will just see how the winter goes.

It will be one year on Tuesday from when I had my surgery last year - I might be an old lady, but I'm coming back strong. Looking forward to JFK this weekend and I hope the weather holds for all the runners - once we are all done, then it can rain, snow or whatever it wants to do.
