Re: Clawing My Way Back
sounds like you are on to something Michael. If interested, a good read is Total Immersion, a swimming drill book by Terry Laughlin. Not that I am some superb swimmer, but it really helped me get a little faster, but made swimming a lot easier...

I have heard of that book from another book, Triathlon in Four Weeks by Eric Harr. I will see about swimming lessons on Saturday at a place called Fun In Swimming (FINS). You are right, I so need it to swim better. I hate struggling on this. I woke up this morning with the pain index being at a 1 on a 1-10 scale. I can live with that. I do want to swim to day before my run, but I have to take my wife for minor eye surgery at 10:30 am ( nthing bad) and our therapist is coming to see my son at 2:15 pm. It might be just a 8 miler today. We shall see.
Did Not Run
I skipped today. I figure, more time to let everything rest. The Achilles, for the most part did not bother me. I also will wrap this week with 26-28 miles ( which is great compared to no mileage at all,for which I was prepared for). I will do a 9 miler with swimming tomorrow. Next week, I start fresh on Monday with a 7 miler. All in all, I am ok.
Hating on Running?
I so do not want to run today. I really, really do not. I will just put in a quick 37:30 (5 miles) and call it a day. I think I will be ok next week. I get into these funks, but I should be ok. My legs are ok, I just hate the heat and I just feel run down. The swimming. Well we signed our son up for lessons, but the lessons for the wife and I will have to be put on hold. Why? They do not have lessons for us that will work with our time schedule. Again, looks like the run will commence at 4:30-5 pm. I will also run 5 miles before we go see my dad for Father's Day.

I don't know about you, but 5 miles - especially in 37:30 - counts as a heck of a good run in my book. Good job!

Well no Kenny. LOL. It is 100 degrees outside. It is 80 degrees upstairs. I hate running, but I am willing myself to get in 5 miles. At least I have track and field to watch.

Michael - it's 80 degrees here too and I have 5 miles to get done too. When are you planning on heading out to do them?

5 miles in 37:30 in 80 degrees temps and I'd call it a day as well!

Haha! How 'bout it?!?!
Mike - well, I hate to tell you, but you have a run to do and you will do it. You don't have to love it and sitting on the couch in air conditioning watching tv sounds really nice...throw in a nice cold beer and it's perfect! HOWEVER, we both have run to do of the same distance in comparable weather. Here's the deal - tell me what time you're going out to run and I'll head out at the same time. That way, you'll know someone else is sucking it up and heading out the door in the heat. It's a bit of motivation, yes? What do ya say?

One For The Books
Done. 37:30 and 5 miles in the book. For a Father's Day present, I am going to ask the wife to let me ( ha ha) run a 5 miler tomorrow. LOL. I ended with 23 miles this week. Next week will be better. We will be watching Inception with the brother in law and sister in law. It was 80 upstairs. Thanks for reading. You made it easier to get it done.

Great job on that!!!!!! See, it wasn't that hard now was it? Martin and I are heading out in a little bit. I have 5 miles to run, but it ain't gonna be anywhere near as fast as what you ran! We wish you an early happy Father's Day!!!! Again, great job getting that done! Next week WILL be better!

Re: Clawing My Way Back
Thank you ma'am. You and Martin have a great time. Oh by the way, wife says I can run 5 miles tomorrow. One more by the way, my Achilles is aching a little bit. I think the swim before the run is a really good idea. Now, I have to fit in a 10-15 minute swim and 45-52 minute run before 5:15, starting at 4:00 pm. Interesting. I have to be out of the YMCA by 5:20 to pick up my son by 5:55 pm. Fun times.

I have Bio Freeze and I have not thought about Epsom Salt. I do have that. Humm
Re: Clawing My Way Back
running in Houston sounds like no picnic. I don't like running in the dark if I don't have to so I end up running in the heat here as well. Gotta love it!

Re: Clawing My Way Back
Yeah it is bad here. The normal high for Houston in June...91 degrees...the past 5-6 day temperatures...100-101....the normal low...71...the past 5-6 days...80-81. Disgusting.
Father's Day Five
That will happen this afternoon. We are not going to make it to my father's house today. My wife is still hurting from her surgery and it is 70 miles and to top it off, it will be 101 today. Just not in the mood. I will send my father his gift tomorrow. We are going to Texas Roadhouse for lunch with my brother and sister in law. I woke up with pain, but the ice has really helped it. I am afraid I will not get to swim to loosen this up, so I will ice and take and Advil to ease it.
Re: Clawing My Way Back
Mike,
Hope you heal well and good luck today with weather! Sounds like another scorcher. Enjoy what you can!

She is slowly, but surely. Had a nice lunch at Texas Roadhouse. Here is a gem. Texas Roadhouse...you would think that the headquarters are in Texas. Wrong. Louisville, Kentucky. Hummm...Will run 5 miles this afternoon and I just have got to start warming up. Might help my Achilles, you think. Thank you so much for the Happy Father's Day wishes Mrs. Shuey.

To funny about the Texas Roadhouse, who would have every guessed!
I hear you about the warming-up thing! I always tell myself I'm going to warm-up, I'm going to warm-up and what do I do I don't warm-up. I have gotten better at it but still a lot of room to improve. Hope your run goes well.

Re: Clawing My Way Back
If i had a treadmill our something in my house I'd probably warm up before I run for 5-10 minutes by walking or slow job but once I am outside the best I will do is recovery pace run before speed work (of course) but other then that I really don't warm up for a regular run. I do take warm showers before races and long runs!
