GARMIN 305 Malfunction - HELP!!!! Empty GARMIN 305 Malfunction - HELP!!!!

Post  Nick Morris Sat Nov 02, 2013 8:33 pm

So, for some reason my 305 won't work off of my cradle.  It says that it is charged when it is on the cradle and will start up when it is on the cradle, but the minute I take it off the cradle it goes dead.  I tried a reset (mode and power), but that won't do anything.  Not sure what to do.  Any ideas...Good thing my race is tomorrow morning...

You tried what I was thinking (reset mode).

I don't know if any of this will work, but:

Try the reset mode on the cradle.

Let it be on for an hour (or maybe in the morning when you wake up).  Just let it be on.  Then turn it off and let it charge (which shouldn't be long).  Then see if it'll turn on normally or in reset mode.

Maybe check for an update on the Garmin website.  When mine wouldn't recharge, they got me to go to the website and download the latest version.  But it didn't do any good.

If your 305 is toast, call Garmin.  After they try to help and it doesn't work, they'll offer to sell you a refurbed one for $99 and get you to return the old one.  THAT was a deal because even Amazon is selling new 305's for $250 or so.

Hope it works.  WalMart (or it's Canadian equivalent) probably has a plain old wrist watch with a stop watch mode for $20.

Good luck on the race!

I have found that deleting all previous laps in history can make a 305 behave when it goes glitchy. Worth a shot.

(Yes, I realized you weren't in New York. D'oh!)

Turn it on and leave it on when it is on the cradle?

This sort of thing always happens at an inconvenient time. Garmin's refurbishment service is excellent. I sent my well-out-of-warranty 305, along with credit-card details, for refurbishment in 2008, with exactly the same fault. They sent back a replacement with a note saying, "Known fault. Your credit card card will not be charged."

Calling Garmin today.  Let's see if they can fix it or at least off me up a solution.  Maybe I will be seeing a new 620 at some point in my future Smile

For me, I'll keep doing 305's as long as they can sell them to me for $99 with the return of the broke 305.

Even better deal now.  They are sending me a refurbished 305 for $79.  I am hoping this will get me through for a while.

Good to know.  Thanks.  I happen to have a dead 305 that might just find its way back to Mother Garmin.

It likely will. When they swapped out my old 305, it was like getting a brand-new replacement. Very cool.

My refurb has made its way from Kansas to Missouri and is now in Illinois.  Looks like it should be to me by Monday or Tuesday of next week.  Then all will be right with the world.

Check that...My refurbed watch arrived with yesterday's mail.  A little sooner than I thought I would get it.  So glad to have a working Garmin.  Smile  If fact, I got to use it today...
