2013 Goals
Happy New Year, everybody!
Okay, time to talk about your running goals for 2013. As Chris posted up last year, it could be a number of miles to run, race time(s) to hit, something about getting or staying healthy, or anything else running-related you are shooting for in the new year.

Re: 2013 Goals
Mine are to be realistic and consistent. I have my training schedule set up with 'x' amount of runs, and 'x' amount of cross training sessions assigned to each week. As the week allows I will select workouts and get them done. It's my way of thinking that it will fit best into my schedule.
I'd like to see a PR in the half some time this year, though it will probably be this fall. A PR would have to be sub 2:19:56 .

Re: 2013 Goals
My goal is to run at least one 5K this year.
OK, done! Got one in this morning...
Seriously, my goal is to run more shorter races, pick up the pace somewhat, and run a decent marathon in the fall with my buddy Steve, all without getting injured.
Piece of cake!

Re: 2013 Goals
Can we open it up to fitness goals? Since my "running goal" is to be more focused on overall fitness/enjoying it rather than any kind of stressful training...
Weights:
13 (because it's 2013) wide-grip pull-ups
1x bodyweight overhead press
1.5x bodyweight bench press
2x bodyweight squat
Running:
Enjoy it
Hit trails more often
Train Aileen for her first marathon (Long Beach in October) and my friend up north for her first half marathon in the spring
Cycling:
Ride a double century
Hiking/backpacking:
Do it a lot more

2013 running goals!
I am in a place right (maybe cause I was in between cycles) where running is just a way to stay fit. I will be coached this year by Skinny Vinny and if my motivation to compete comes back the following is my goal with concentrating on 2 Goal races this year and only ONE goal marathon.
1. 10 mile - Prospect Park, Brooklyn (sub 1:10) - Feb
2. HM - New Jersey - (sub 1:30) - April ----------GOAL RACE
3. Marathon - Steamtown (sub 3:15 to BQ) ------ GOAL RACE
4. Marathon - NYC (fun)
5. Brooklyn - Marathon (fun or backup)
6. Philly Marathon as Backup
(I'll sprinkle of course short distance races from 5k to 10k)
Depending on other factors I may use running as only a form of active meditation and fitness, deep sixing any competitive racing.

Re: 2013 Goals
Fitness goals are always good, Mike, and I think many of us have them as well. My "fitness" goals for 2013 are as follows:
1) Maintain my weight where it is today at 120-122 lbs.
2) Work to stay injury free.
3) Enjoy and embrace my new fitness class that starts next Monday (@ 5:50 am!) to get back some of my lost overall core strength and fitness
4) Follow my current running schedule which includes a half marathon at the end of February, one in mid-March, and the CB 10 miler in order to run a very comfortable, sub-4 at Boston. And enjoy it.
5) Start cycling in the Spring when the weather gets back to normal in order to enjoy a mix in the summer (cycling and running)
6) Race a faster marathon in the fall. Location to be determined (and it might be in the later summer)
7) Look to run between 1800-2000 miles
Overall, be healthy and happy.

Re: 2013 Goals
Running or fitness goals are always good - even if it's to avoid getting obsessed with them.
Mine:
1) Keep it fun.
2) Maintain my weight at about 160 pounds.
3) Stay injury free.
4) Keep barefooting (as much as possible, given the next goal).
5) Build up for (and hopefully run) my first ultra (Mount Hood 50) in July.

Mmm.... tempting, but probably not this year.

Re: 2013 Goals
Road:
Half: sub 1:19
Full: sub 2:49, need to figure out which marathon though
Track: lifetime PR, considering I need multiple tries to learn the event, one success in either distance suffices.
1500m:4:39,
or
800m:2:13
Bring it!

Re: 2013 Goals
For now I'm just worried about January:
1. 5k personal best tomorrow night on an indoor track.
2. PR at the Houston Half January 13th.

Re: 2013 Goals
I need to come up with some more specific goals. My #1 goal is to get my fat ass back in shape. I'm heading the right direction and I'm up to 20-25 mpw again. I'm even starting to pick up the pace on some of my runs again, though only on the treadmill. I'm also going to focus on getting stronger across the board. A personal trainer buddy of mine gave me a 15 minute workout to get started. I tried it yesterday. Let's just say I'm out of shape and getting old. Thank god there is no video of my pathetic burpees.

Boston PR- which stands @3:24 (lame-o)- hopefully not another furnace run from hell.
Half PR-less than 1:29 and sub 3:05 full/PR.

Re: 2013 Goals
I want to break 4:20:00 at the Missoula Marathon.
Living through Goofy in another week and a half on my minimal training for it would be good too......

Re: 2013 Goals
not exactly sure yet.
- sub 3:00 @ Boston might give me AG top 10 - that would be cool
- 10k masters nationals if they are in Ann Arbor again - would love to go sub 38 and win a medal
- 26.2 masters nationals in Twin Cities > prob need sub 2:50 to medal - not sure that's in me
- I signed up for a 73km run in the French Alps at the end of June thru some glaciers - might make it, might not. 10k feet of climb

Re: 2013 Goals
1. Take a year off from going for sub3
2. Run Boston but just at a time to get a BQ for 2014 to keep the streak alive
3. Focus on 5k/10k/10 Mile races and get PRs at each in 2013
4. Get fully healthy (knee in particular) so that 2nd half of 2013 can be injury free and uniterrupted training

Re: 2013 Goals
Keep on running, keep on running.
Right now, all I have signed up for is my 2nd 50-mile attempt at the Indiana Trail 100.
My goal is to finish before the 15-hour deadline. Unless I break down during the race, I don't think that will be a problem. After that, a few trail half marathons, maybe a road half or full at the new Mill Race Marathon in Columbus sponsored by Cummins in September. It will be quite flat and is a BQ - but that does not interest me anyway.
Also the Howl at the Moon 8-hour and maybe a 12-hour event.
I am guessing that after the 50-miler, the longest I will ever consider will likely be a 50K.
I think 100-miles is just not realistic for me - though I would love to be able to conquer one.
My main goal for 2013 is to write at least 2 new Indiana-based musicals and a one-man show for me.
The Indiana Bicentennial of 2016 is coming fast and I need to get ready.
Also, some huge photography/video projects for the Bicentennial too.
And . . . a daily nap!

Re: 2013 Goals
1. Run at least 100 miles per month (keeping streak alive since March 2007).
2. Finish two marathons (Ogden will be first. Fall marathon undecided - considering Philly and St. George)
3. Run both marathons at ~170 lbs.
4. Double-secret goal - finally break 4 hours.

Re: 2013 Goals
I'm going to keep running but really in a time taking a break from marathons to see what I need to do to get faster again and quit racing while I feel so mediocre and slow. So I guess keep using running to keep me healthy and manage stress and life but no formal race goals or time till I can figure things out a bit better. Maybe something this fall but I doubt anything before that especially how this winter and having surgery have gone so far.

Re: 2013 Goals
As of today I think my goals for 2013 should be:
- Beat my buddy in a head-to-head matchup at the Mountain Mist 50k later this month
- Run at least 75+ miles/week for 2 out of every 3 weeks while I build towards my 50 miler
- Complete a 20 mile Saturday long run then 30 mile Sunday long run weekend while I build towards my 50 miler
- Complete a 50 mile trail race
- PR at the half marathon the second half of the year
- Race at least one 5k and 10k all out
- Do not race a road marathon
- Complete at least 2 core workout sessions/week and 2 weight sessions/week every week this year
- Track all my mileage/workouts in a running log

Re: 2013 Goals
I'm just concerned with January.
Finish my first 100 miler on the 19-20th.
Pass the damn BCBA certification exam already (already took it once and didn't pass...41% pass rate....been studying for 6 months, which was after 1 1/2 years of courses).

Well, since it is a week after CB and you will have run a PR there, you can "pace" me to a 3:45 in Boston. Should be a piece of cake for you

Good luck Whitney. Sounds similar to the test I've got coming up sometime April-June. Super low pass rate, but it's the one national certification that REALLY matters.
