People would be amazed to learn how few protein grams they really need to repair, replace and maintain the muscles in body.  Further, any unutilized protein turns into sugar, then fat if the sugar isn't burned soon.

I know that there are ways to increase or decreasing your resting metabolism that can affect weight gain/loss, but it really comes down to the basic calories burned vs. calories consumed. 

On an only slightly related note, it's time for the "you burn 100 calories per mile" myth to die.  It's not even close to correct.

It is if you weigh about 130 lbs..........but yes, generally it's about as correct as using 220 minus age to get your max HR.
