I went to Nashville TN this weekend for my first marathon. 35,000 people there to run and near perfect weather. I had been waiting for this for about a year because of the cancellation of my first attempt in Memphis in December.
At the start I was really careful not to get too excited and bolt out of the gate. I was able to hold myself beck pretty good I thought. I had heard about the hills of Nashville so I tried to train on some hilly roads around home. That helped a lot but the hills in this race were relentless! There was very little flat ground in the race. The hills never stopped and it seemed like each one got taller and taller. The relentless climbs wore on me because after mile 17 I found myself walking more and more.
My first goal for the race was simply to finish since it was my first. The second goal was to get it in under 5 hours. That goal I met with a 4:54.15. I know it's not as fast as most of you here but I'm happy with it and it gives me something to shoot for in the future. Thanks for all the tips you guys gave me along the way.

Congrats, Jordan - that is awesome!  And to meet your goals on your first is incredible.  Hats off to you!  And speed is not a concern.

Excellent! I've heard that's a tough course, and it sounds especially so for a first-time effort. The hills really make a huge difference. Congrats!!
