Today's high temp is supposed to be 65 degrees, which while it makes great running weather, it is a bit cold for my summer liking. Oh well, I guess you just have to roll with what you are dealt...
Just send that weather down here, so I can assess whether I like a 65 degree high in July.
Lol...as a runner I am not complaining.

Its going to be 58F here in the morning. Of course on Sunday, when I race, it is predicted to be 72F. That will feel like 90!

07.15.14 - 6 miles
It felt like fall tonight as I headed out for my six mile run. 65 degrees and cool felt pretty good...I took it a little easy tonight after my 20 miles on Sunday and my doubleheader softball games last night put a little bit of work on my legs. They still responded very well as I completed the 6.23 miles at a 7:46 pace. I think that I will be in great shape for the 9 miles that I have scheduled for tomorrow.

We are looking at record lows tonight in the upper 40s! Crazy...like you said though, highs back in the 80s by the weekend.

07.16.14 - 9 miles
Another cool evening for a run with temps in the lower 70s. I felt pretty good and the cool air really helped control the sweat. Nothing too special to talk about, as I just put in the work. I guess I am to the point in the training cycle where you just go out and do the run...I completed 9.30 miles at a 7:42 pace. Not quite as fast as last week's 9 miler, but still pretty good...

I was schedule for 6 miles, but opted to trade my run for my Friday off day. Instead, the little lady and I went to see the comedian Ron White. It was a funny show. Especially if you like a little vulgar humor and alcohol jokes. I will run my 6 miler on Friday instead. Should be all good...

07.18.14 - Scheduled Off Day
I traded my off day with Thursday, so 6 miles instead. I decided to take it easy knowing that I have a big weekend ahead of me. It's starting to get warmer again after the cool spell that we had all week (just in time for my long runs...yay). I ended up completing 6.21 miles at a 7:46 pace. Heading out for 9 miles shortly

Re: "No Pressure"
07.19.14 - 9 miles
A great run this morning on a cool, but warming morning. I set out with the intension of not pushing it this morning, as I ran 6 last night and have 20 tomorrow. I ended up running 9.27 miles at a 7:42 pace, which is a faster pace than I ran the 6 miles yesterday (although I did take it easy). The run felt very easy and my legs felt really good afterwards. I think that I could have held that pace for another 6 miles or so, which is a good sign that my fitness level is getting better. My second 20 miler of the training cycle is tomorrow morning...fun.

Very good to finish a slightly faster run with your body itching to do more. That's a great feeling.

07.20.14 - 20 miles
My second 20 miler of the training cycle. The morning was relatively cool, with mid 60s temps. The humidity was much better than last weekend (although the humidity is supposed to roll in this afternoon). I felt really good as I started out. I kept the first mile slower at 8:28, but gradually picked it up as I went along. By the halway point, I was consistently running around 8:15. I got the average down to 8:18, before giving back a couple of seconds in the final two miles. I ended up finishing 20.40 miles at an 8:20 pace. Faster than last week, so progression is progression. I have a step back week this coming week, before bumping up my weekly mileage again.

07.21.14 - Cross Training
It looks like summer has finally come to Wisconsin, at least for a couple of days. Upper 80s/lower 90s scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, before the 70s come back. It was a pretty warm one on Monday, but I lucked out. Our softball game was not until after 9pm. By then it had cooled down to the upper 70s. We ended up getting beat last night. Our first loss of the year. It feels so much better wot win...
Prior to softball, I hit up the gym for some weight training and core work.

I am scheduled for 6 miles this afternoon. Right now it is 91 with a heat index close to 100. Should be fun

07.22.14 - 6 miles
Definitely a scorcher out, so I decided to cut my run back from 6 to 3 miles. It was instant sweat from the start, but I made sure that I was well hydrated before setting out on my run. I also back the pace off a bit. I was drenched when I finished and it looked like I ran 10 miles instead of 3. I completed 3.18 miles at a warm 7:51 pace. It is supposed to cool back down tomorrow, so it looks like summer is gone in a flash...

Re: "No Pressure"
07.23.14 - 10 miles
Up early this morning to get in my run, because I have a work outing. My favorite work outing...we are going to Miller Park to take in a Brewers game!! So, like most of my training runs, I try to have a little goal for each run. For this one, I wanted to run negative splits. I set out at a very easy 8:04 for the first mile. Then I methodically picked off each mile a little faster than the previous, until the last mile was at a cool 7:40. I ended up running the 10.26 miles at a 7:51 pace. I great run on a much cooler morning, as a cold front moved in last night to push out the 90 degree weather.

Re: "No Pressure"
Have you ever quantified how a really humid day slows you versus a dry day? I used to estimate +30 seconds/mile for every 5 degrees above 60 degrees.Nick Morris wrote:07.20.14 - 20 miles

Gosh, don't you just hate it when work interferes with running?Nick Morris wrote:07.23.14 - 10 miles

I have never really quantified my times with heat. I do know that they are slower and the effort is definitely increased for the pace. I may have to do some research on the subject.
It was tough work today watching my first place team sweep Cincy

Re: "No Pressure"
07.24.14 - 6 miles
A little speed work tonight, as I kicked it up a notch with a 6 mile tempo run. I started out relatively fast with a 7:34 mile and followed it up with a 7:21, 7:03, 6:58, 7:24, and a 7:32 to end it. It was a pretty tough workout and I am glad that it was overcast, as to keep the temps cooler. I needed this, though, and am happy to have finished the 6.27 miles at an average pace of 7:19. This is the first of a few tempo runs that I will have before the end of the cycle.
