A Friday night baseball game in Milwaukee meant that I got a late start this morning for my run. It also meant that it was in the mid 70s and rising. Nothing like a sweaty run to get your motor going. All in all, it wasn't that bad. I had some shady areas and a nice headwind for part of it. I complete 7.30 sweaty miles at a 7:45 pace. A step back 12 miler tomorrow morning.
Did the mid 70's temp cause squishy shoes?

06.16.14 - Cross Training
I finally made it to Indianapolis around 3pm after a canceled flight and a couple standbys. This evening I took advantage of the hotel fitness center and did some light weight training and core work. Tomorrow morning, I plan on taking advantage of the many trails that head south out of downtown Indianapolis. I have 5 miles on the docket tomorrow.

06.17.14 - 5 miles
Boy, I would have never thought that Indiana would be so muggy. A sweaty one as I went out early this morning to get in my 5 miler. I started out on the Cultural Trail near the capital and followed that south/southwest past the NCAA and the NCAA Hall of Champions, where I connected to the White River Trail that went past IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indiana). Not a bad run along the wide trail. I was surprised that I did not see very many bikers, runners, or walkers. Of course, it is an early Tuesday morning...and I bet that the weekends are busier. I ended up completing 5.18 miles at an easy 7:51 pace. I have meetings this morning and then it is off to the airport to head back home.

Re: "No Pressure"
I'm not criticizing, but Monday was 12 at 8:06 and today was 5 at 7:51. So for my edification, it would seem to me the 5 should've been a little quicker (or the 12 a little slower). Just asking.

I took it easy this morning as this week is my first big step up week. So, yes, I could have ran faster today...just want to be cautious in he early going...

06.18.14 - 8 miles
Another week, and another bump up in my mid-week sorta long run. This time up to 8 miles. I am kind of glad that I took it easy yesterday morning as I started the new week, because tonight's run was great. It was humid and I sweat a lot, but it was great. I completed 8.26 miles at a 7:41 pace. A good 10 seconds per mile faster than yesterday's 5 miler. Now, the next thing is to see how my body reacts tomorrow when I have another 5 miler planned.

Just tell your legs there's a Brewers game to go to, if they do well.

06.19.14 - 5 miles
All questions were answered tonight as I headed out for my run ahead of a storm front. I was hoping that my legs would be fine after bumping up my weekly mileage a little and that is just what they were. I was able to knock out the 5 miles in a pretty easy fashion. I also finish about 25 minutes ahead of some down pouring rain, so that was good, too I ended up completing 5.22 miles at a 7:42 pace. Friday is a scheduled off day before moving up to a 25 mile weekend.

Scheduled off day today as I prepare for a 25 mile weekend. It will be the first time that I have ran 17 miles in over a month and a half. Almost the end of Week 4 already....damn...

06.21.14 - 8 miles
A pretty good run this morning...temps in the upper 60s with overcast skies and just a slight southern breeze. Everything felt free and easy as I made May way on the out and back course. I completed 8.30 miles at a 7:36 pace. I really like watching my training progress. Almost 4 weeks into my training and the 7:50s pace effort runs are now down to 7:40s. Things are really coming together. 17 miles tomorrow...

Re: "No Pressure"
06.22.14 - 17 miles
Whew...was that a warm one!! It was already in the lower 70s at 6:30 this morning and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Because of that and the fact that this was my first real long run of the cycle, I decided to take it slower with a goal of finishing with a pace in the 8:10-8:19 range. By mile 2 my singlet was already drenched...but on kept on with my plan. I made it to the halfway point/turnaround at a sweaty 8:12 average pace, so I figured I was right where I wanted to be. I kept on as I made my way home. With a few miles to go, I could feel the fatigue start to set in and my heart rate started to go up. I kept at it as I faded a little over the last few miles, but finished the 17.18 miles with an 8:16 overall pace. I looked and felt like I had just stepped out of the shower, but I did what I planned to do.

Re: "No Pressure"
I would think that getting home in the range you adjusted would be a victory.
Nice job, Nick. So, if in 4 weeks you run 17 again in the same weather, what time would you hope to run it at?

Thanks Doug. Yes, I consider that run a victory and am happy that I was able to complete it. I think that if I was to run 17 again in 4 weeks in the same weather that I would want my pace to be down around 8:05 or 8:06. I think that would be doable, as I would have an 18 and two 20 mile runs under my belt. Plus, I will have a few more pounds shed by then.

06.23.14 - Cross Training
I hit up the gym Monday afternoon after work for some light weight training and core work. After that it was off to play softball. With a victory we would stay undefeated and clinch the first half title. Of course, we brought home the "W" and clinched the first half standings, even with one game left to play in the first half.

06.24.14 - 5 miles
Up early this morning to get in my 5 miles before work, as I am heading to Milwaukee for a baseball game tonight. It was a cool, but humid morning in the mid to upper 60s. Even with the moistness, I put in a good run. I completed 5.21 miles at a 7:43 pace...Not a bad start to Week 5 running.

Re: "No Pressure"
06.25.14 - 8 miles
Ugh, I was scheduled to run 8 miles today, but since I was at a 16 inning baseball game that went into the early hours of this morning, I decided to cut my run short to 5 miles. I got a total of 4.5 hours of sleep and have been running all day on red bull, so I think that I needed the cut back. The miles were not the most fun miles, but I did managed to get through them. I trudged through the 5.21 miles at a 7:46 pace, which actually isn't that bad considering it felt a lot worse. Now, I am going to get some rest, so that tomorrow's run will be better. I think that I will try to get my 8 miler in tomorrow, as I am technically scheduled for 5 miles tomorrow.

4.5 hours of sleep is brutal, might have been better to skip the run and get that extra 30-40 minutes of sleep. Still, nice job.
