Starting to Run
Hey Everyone,
I have started running going to train to do some 5K's then try a Triathlon. Any Suggestions you would like to give to me would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Starting to Run
Hey, Kyle, welcome to the boards. The first thing I would recommend is going to a real running store and get fitted for a pair of real running shoes. You'll pay full list price, but it will be worth it. Then, if the shoes work for you, you can get the next pair online.

Welcome Kyle.
Second the shoes. Then learn to be patient and run easy.

Re: Starting to Run
Hi Kyle!! Welcome to the boards!!
After you do what ounce and Jerry said and actually start running. Remember t take it easy and try nt to do too much too fast. The rule is to not increase your weekly mileage by more than 10% at a time. Like I always say, "you can't run a race if you get injured and don't make it to the starting line." Lastly, listen to your body. If your legs are tired, then give them a day off. They normally will bounce back with a little rest.

Re: Starting to Run
Kyle,
Welcome.
Are you following a plan for your first 5K? You will want to find a plan for beginners if you aren't already following one. Try running different places as some of them are more interesting and fun than others, at least for me. I like running on trails more than on streets near my home. Are you doing any kind of exercise at this time? Are you planning on a sprint distance triathlon for your first one?

Welcome Kyle, ditto what everyone has said. Consistency is the key so just get out on a consistent basis.

Re: Starting to Run
Welcome! Echoing what others said, don't go too fast. Just start slow and easy and gradually build up the distance you can run. That way you will be less likely to get injured when you are new to it. Starting with a run/walk program can also be really helpful.
