Delaware humidity worse than Houston?  Well, pretty much anywhere along the Gulf Coast would be worse than Houston.  For example, When we're 77 in the mornings, Galveston is 82.

Mike, regarding humidity, for my running I add 30-45 seconds per mile when the morning temp is above 65 degrees.  I don't want to add it, but that's how much I slow.  After a week or two, you're heat acclimated.

I'd find out when the weather temp drops up there.  Then when that hits, the cooler temps are like blood doping, which might help for MCM.

Hang in there.

Yup, Delaware was worse than Houston - it just last as long, but it is nasty!  Nastier than Atlanta and Florida too.

Good news, Mike - you will get used to it and that acclimation will serve you well in October.

All - Fortunately, temp usually plummets in October with 1 final summer-y week sometime in the middle of the month here.  So I should be nice and brisk by MCM.  Hell, temps in the high 60s this morning felt brisk.

Acclimation is happening slowly but surely.  Paces already dropped from high 9's to low 9's in the last week, with a lower effort level.

---

Gonna be a lower mileage week this week as work schedule is a little wonky until colleges start back up on Monday, but I'm hoping to pull a decent long run on Saturday.

---

Thanks for the thoughts.

Good weather for running!  I find that I lose 2-3 pounds of water when the body figures out that summer is over.

Keep it up and, until MCM, don't visit Mark or Nancy's blogs because Nancy just got hurt and Mark is just always susceptible to luck like that.

Oz - is that a slight jab at how bad of a community member I'm being lately?  Wink

---

Still putting one step in front of the other.  Literally and figuratively.  Tackled a somewhat impromptu 17-miler on Friday (was planning 14mi, felt good, went longer).  Lots of cycling to complement the measly mileage I'm putting up lately.

Plan is to "do what I can" during the weekdays, then run 14/19/15/22.5/20/16/11/race on the weekends.  The shorter long runs will have some uptempo work near the end, as will the 20.

MCM changed their route and made the start an "open starting line" for an hour due to Metro bullshit here in DC.  It won't affect me, as I can walk to the start pretty easily, but sucks for people who are running this as a destination race.  Although the route change is pretty awful.  2 bonus miles of spaghetti in Crystal City to accommodate for the 14th St Bridge opening on time.

Working in that cycling is going to be a big help for you as you gear up for MCM.

What do you mean by "open starting line for an hour"? That sounds like a mob scene. And spaghetti is for the night before the race, not the race itself!

I'll take a guess...seems like they'll allow the starting line to be open for the whole hour after the BANG.  Houston has 27K for both races and it takes them 40 minutes to herd everybody through.

The 'spaghetti' probably means he gets to wind his way through Chrystal City a bunch.  I remember that part of MCM and that was 11 years ago.  The only good part was that it was shaded.

DO I WIN???

Sorry to read about that, Mike.

I won't give any 'fatherly' advice, but I will recommend the movie "Sausage Party" at a theater near you.  Supremely funny and would be considered raunchy be evangelicals or parents of teenagers.  I'd consider it this generation's "Blazing Saddles" for humor.

Mom - Training is highly weather- and mood-dependent.  But I'll at least finish the damn race, I know that.  Time?  Psh.  Hopefully not a PW.

---

Kind of funny thing on my commute this morning.  Riding along near the volleyball courts just NW of the Lincoln Memorial when I look up and who do I see?  None other than our very own DC-ite, Kevin.  I'm still not sure he knows who pointed at him and yelled his name.  He looked startled and very confused.  Sorry, Kevin.  Glad to see you running that far from home, though.  Must mean the old ticker is holding up.

---

Aiming for 19mi long run this weekend.  Eep.

Checking in here.

Life is still strange and fickle and that's a good reminder, I guess.  Things with Aileen are not as catastrophic as they seemed two and a half weeks ago.  I hesitate to put anything in writing, because it's windy, lately.

---

Ran 20 last Sunday.  It hurt the way a 20 should, but I was pleasantly surprised that "should" was the extent of it.  For the lackluster training cycle I've had, that was a nice confidence booster that I can at least still cover the marathon distance.

Not sure if I mentioned that my dad's coming out for the race.  I told him not to expect any fireworks, which he was actually pleased about.  Apparently I'm not much fun when I'm actually focused on a race?  Go figure.

---

I've cooked up a couple batches of homebrew - a honey porter and a basic English-style dark ale.  Looking forward to indulging in the fruits of my labor when they're ready.

Thanks for the check-in.

Windy. It's like that sometimes. Hang in there.

Glad you're making progress toward the race, and that your dad will there to cheer your on. (Or is he running it, too?) Either way, it's a nice thing.

Those dark brews are going to hit the spot, especially as autumn sets in. Cheers!

We're in taper now.  Have 2 20s under my belt, neither of which was amazing, but both were successful.  26.2 is going to be a tough run.  Goal time is 3:30.

Still windy, still gloomy, but at least I'm using this time to the best of my ability to do some self work/analysis/reflection/whatever.
