I sent Matt a message asking if there was anything we could do to keep this site going (I seem to recall this coming up to a lesser extent previously), handing the admin duties off to me or someone else, but I haven't heard back. I notice that he locked his post, with no opportunity to comment or inquire, so that doesn't exactly bode well.

I mean, sure, we're a small group, but we enjoy each other's company.

Anyway, if this is really the end of this forum, what other options do we have?

I seem to remember him renewing the boards maybe 2 or 3 years ago, saying he could handle the cost.

As far as Runningahead.com, I started copying stuff out of the blog over to that site, just so I get a head start on it.  Doesn't look like it's a multi-category forum, like we have here.

Mark, I think you're the admin for the 365 site over at Runningahead.    You might could PM Matt on FB about it.  He was or is in the V-Team group, there.

We'll end up somewhere together.  We're a box set!

I've already swung over to that RunningAHEAD site earlier today, and I sent you the password to get in.

I took a quick peek.  This is going to be a huge adjustment for me...something I really don't have time for right now.  Not sure I have the time or know how to transfer anything from this site over to the new site so I'll just pick up where I'm at I guess.  I'll continue here until we're sure that's what we're doing...

I don't know if my first note to Matt got through, so I just sent him another message offering to take this off his hands, including paying whatever domain registration fee is needed. There's just too much good content on this site to just let it go away. It's a nicer interface, too.

It's my opinion from looking at the Forumotion website that Matt's issue is the website address.  Forumotion is free.

I'm figuring that Matt is the Forum Founder.  So, I think we need to continue to get a hold of Matt.

I haven't found on their website how to move our content to a new forum, but I did find this link and copied the info below the link:

Change the Forum Address "MyAddress.forumotion.com"

If you want to modify the Internet address of your board, you can do this in your admin panel in "General / Forum / Forum Address". That way you can also choose another domain name that is different from .forumotion.com.



Only the forum founder can do this manipulation. Normal Admins can not see this section in the admin panel.

Don't forget to tell all your members about the address change by using the mass E-mail, for example. An e-mail will also be sent automatically, to warn your members about this change.

This option is not here to change your forum address every day!! When you change the address, all the referencement you did under the former address is lost. You have to have your forum indexed again on different websites and search engines.

There is also a timeframe (24 to 48 hours) in which your personal avatars and smilies aren't displayed. Re-installing won't help in this case - you have to wait until they re-appear again by themselves.


I will see if I can find out if we can move content to a "xxx.forumotion.com" addressed forum.

I saw this on the Forumotion boards.  Not sure if this applies to us or not.  I also posted our question on their boards.  It's on the next post.

Dear members, It is possible to have a custom domain name. Please read this tutorial for more information: Have a custom Domain However, once your domain name has been bought or offered through Forumotion it is not possible to transfer the Domain Name to another registar. Domains purchased via Forumotion are dedicated only to Forumotion forums. Moreover, transferring domain name causes many problems like: It may create duplicate contents, which cancel your referencing. Loss of the SEO also Loss of redirection on the base URL of your forum Loss of Custom email boxes By consequences,Forumotion has decided to stop the process. If you want to transfer your domain name to another registrar, you have to wait until the end of the domain will expire (one year from purchase date). Once the domain name has expired, there is still a waiting time before the domain name be available. This waiting time doesn't depend on our service but on Godaddy service. (Over 60days) After the waiting time, you'll be able to buy the domain name. Thanks for your understanding

I don't understand any of this!  Can't do much to help other than lend encouragement and 2nd Kevin's offer to pay any fees associated with keeping this open.  Heck...I'd be willing to fund a compensation package for the administrator if that helped!

This is an added stress that I didn't need...I'm going for a run before my family invades later today.

Nancy, this isn't a big deal.  Sure, it came out of the blue.  But my recommendation is to just watch, for now, and enjoy your run.

Then that new person automatically becomes the new owner, takes over the founder account, the forum continues as normal.

Thanks much, Brandon. After communicating this to the outgoing founder, we received the following reply from the outgoing founder. I have x'd out the address:
I have changed the original founder account to 'Admin' and sent Mark B the password and pointed it to his email address. At this time, the xxx.com address is set to expire, but the actual forum address on Forumotion is http://www.xxx.com/

That address is, and will remain, accessible directly. As was pointed out, the hosting is free (unless you want to suppress ads, etc). I had added the xxx.com domain name separately, but it really isn't necessary for the forum to continue. Just update your bookmarks to http://www.xxx.com/

Is that true? Will nothing change regarding our access, even with the domain name being expired? I'd hate for the forum to disappear, when the address expires. As you can see, I'm not experienced in this stuff. Thanks again.

You need to also change the information in the utilities:  https://www.forumotion.com/utils .

A domain name only redirects to your forum.   When it expires, you will need to stop the redirection in the administration panel.

That depends really, if you have a custom domain now (doesnt end with .forumotion.com ) and is say for example 'forumname.com' , if it is a custom domain name similar to the 2nd one, then it will require forumotion credits to renew the custom domain name, the person who now has access to the founder account can also now buy any needed credits for this and also spend them to renew the custom domain name.

If it is the free domain name (ending in .forumotion.com) then yes nothing will happen as this provided free and you can never lose this.

Also, even if you have a custom domain name, if the new founder chooses not to renew it using credits, then the forum itself will still be accessible via the free forumotion domain name, but the custom one will no longer work. In other words, you will have to access the forum directly at the free domain name once the custom domain name expires.

I hope this clears this up for you?

P.s You should also relay to your current founder that he/she should also update the login info in the founder utilities to reflect the new details for the new founder. This way the new founder has access to the recovery tools if he ever needs to a forum back up or something like that. I would just make sure to tell your current/old founder to do this before he/she leaves completely.

Using founder's tool I updated the email address to Mark's and reset the founder password to the Admin password.

The domain name '365Runners.com' was added through GoDaddy and pointed to the forum through DNS.  It was not a custom address purchased through Forumotion.

The forum will ALWAYS be accessible at https://i-team.forumotion.com/ unless Mark goes postal and deletes the whole thing.

From the above reply, the below I believe are the key mechanics to saving the boards, plus you doing the utility maintenance also listed above.

I don't know how much a 'credit' costs, but I believe Forumotion gets paid, not GoDaddy.  Credits are based on activity, so I would imagine we'd be buying more than a forum that has a lot of users.

It might be easier and cheaper to get our boards attached to forumotion.com, so it could be 365runners.forumotion.com

This is weird.  In my post above I did not type http://www.365Runners.com/ ---- I typed the forumotion address which is i-team dot forumotion dot com.  If you type that address in the browser URL (replacing dot with a "." ) it will bring you straight to this forum.  Not sure why it converts it to the 365Runners address when you see it...

To answer the questions, the hosting itself is free.  If you want to disable ads and such then you have to buy credits.  The credits can be spent on added things like ad-suppression, more storage, etc.  Since Mark has access to my old account (now named Admin) he can do whatever he likes in that regard.  As for the 365Runners domain, that is at GoDaddy and I can transfer it to someone else with a GoDaddy account.  However, it isn't necessary as the forum will always be accessible at the i-team dot forumotion dot com address.

Okay, I get it now.

This is the actual URL for our forums: i-team.forumotion.com.

So our choice is this: To revert back to the old forum name (The i-team.) or stick with the 365runners.com name.

I'm fine either way. Do you guys have any preference?

BTW, I've just created a GoDaddy account, so we can do the swap.
