Cooling Aids For Runners
I remember seeing this awhile back. Besides clothing and the CamelBac, are there not items such as a cooling bandana that one puts in the freezer then uses? Just curious. What do you all use?

A treadmill with a fan.

A bottle with ice water in it. And sleeveless shirts and thin socks. And 4:45 a.m. runs.

Serious? You may need to go to the other site. VW is there.

You're losing it, Jerry - I would have expected you to say that "you get cool by running real fast and getting a BQ" or something.
My response - I run in Tiburon, where it is always comfy.
Re: Cooling Aids For Runners
I know others have said the best way they have felt the coolest was running with me.

Mike - I don't know if freezing a chamois or towel would help that much - in your neck of the woods I'm sure it would melt in no time and I don't think it would really do anything to cool your body down anyway. I'm guessing our weather is pretty similar and I really don't have an answer other than just. I have sort of gotten used to it, but I don't think it will ever feel good to run in heat indexes of 100+. Except for Sunday mornings, I never run in the mornings, but I'm not running really long or fast either...
Yeah, and what Bob and Jerry said

Re: Cooling Aids For Runners
I actually have one of those bandanas somewhere as I used it when I helped crew a friend a couple of years ago when he was training for Badwater, and I have used it for a couple of other hot marathons. It actually has the "beads" that freeze in a pouch that is on the back ofyour neck and then ties in the front. Of course, it is home in Atlanta where I still sometimes use it and not here when I really needed it. I think you can see it in this picture from the Atlanta Marathon back in 2007 when it was 80F at the start (in march!).

Your question is disqualified! There's no need for extra cooling if you're in A/C on a treadmill! Suck it up!
I went through 44 oz. of iced down water and G2 during an 18 miler on the mill on Sunday. That, and lots of towels.

It is 80 DEGREES upstairs, so no I AM not disqualified. I cannot move the A/C down because it is at 76 now. We have been hitting 100 degrees each day, so the effects are the same.

Your answer is disqualified.
In Chicago morning? I would be able to run 18 miles with no water and a long sleeve.

That's great Jerry, but how does that affect me in St. Louis?

It's certainly uncool to live in St. Louis.

Oh, you run on the TM?
What if you wet your clothes and put them in the FREEZER and then wear them? Since you are at home, you can freeze several sets and change every mile.

A CamelBac keeps you cool? I always assumed it would make your back sweat more.

I usually hire a couple of school aged kids to ride next to me and spritz me with water as I go. And play my theme song.

Theme song? Is that "Another One Bites the Dust"?
or "Someone Knock on My Door" , the 3's Company Intro?
