Well, let's keep ourselves busy, while she compiles the time. So, John, on Mark's blog you mentioned your son got an 80 on a reading test. These days, what reading level would your son happen to be and is that considered really good? Mine are all grown, is why I'm asking.

Re: Laugh at the Rules

Post  Peg Coover on Tue Apr 03, 2012 9:42 pm

I had this written up and then realized I wasn't logged in--saved it to a Stickie, and then forgot about it!

It was a very warm day for a 10 mile race! Humid, no wind. But I enjoyed the heck out of it! Even though I told myself not to make the same mistake as last year and go out too fast, I did it again. I really did try to slow it down, but the first few miles were around 9:15 or less. By mile 7 I was feeling winded and my legs were very tired! I was able to get back down to pace for miles 9 and 10 but those other two cost me some time. I was about 30 seconds slower than last year. Certainly not a day for a PR! 1:38:14.

I ended up not running Sunday--we had company and I just didn't take the time to go. That was ok too. Had a nice visit.

Monday I ran 4.5, tonight I ran 4 and then did Body Pump.

Thanks for checking in Julie, Kathy , John and Oz!

Glad you enjoyed your race! Great job!
Isn't it funny how we can give ourselves a lecture about not starting out too fast and then do it anyway!

I know it's still 4 wks away, but I am going to be wearing a Lincoln Marathon volunteer shirt (whatever they're giving all the volunteers) and probably jeans (yeah, really distinguishable) but it's just me and 2 older men at the marker where the half and fulls split off. Let me know what you're wearing. I don't think I'm making it to the pastathon because I have to work Saturday.

I hope the rest of your training goes great!

I will let you know what I end up wearing! That will be a fun place to be.

Training is going well. i had 30 miles last week, with a 11.6 mile long run that was good. This week has gone well so far too, with a speed session last night that didn't whip me! I have a 10K this Saturday, so I am contemplating resting today AND my normal Friday.

Thanks Kath!

I'm always hoping for a PR, but in reality, I would be happy to average 9:00 and come in around 56. My best 10K of late was two years ago 54:50-ish. I was pretty happy to get that! Last June I ran 57:06. My best ever is 54:29 from years ago.

Have a good 10K this weekend! That is a hard distance to race, I think, because it's kind of all-out for so long. I almost think a marathon is easier, in some respects.

Thanks ladies!

I ran the 10K in 55:13! Very happy with the time and effort and even pacing! I didn't die like I did on my last 10 mile race and 5K race!

I agree it's hard to race, but the weather was good and my initial pace worked out great. My first two miles were 8:53 and 9:13, then the rest were under 9, some 8:45! I was picking off runners from mile 4 on! I don't remember being caught be very many in those last miles.

Lincoln Half marathon this Sunday.

Runs have been good. My ten on Sunday was easy! I did a tempo last night which went well despite the heat. One more run today and then I'm good.

Goal is a course PR, under 2:05. Would like to be closer to 2:00. Under 2 would be a delightful bonus!

Good luck on Sunday, Peg! Might be an interesting day weatherwise. After 25 plus marathons, I have yet to run in a rainy one. I figure that streak will end at some point.

Hope it's a good enough day that you can reach your goals. Sounds like your training has gone well.

Go Peg Go! And like Jon, I've run 38 marathons and it only rained on me twice (once at Boston at mile 24 on and at the Pig in 2004 and that was really drizzle).
