You wonder why this is necessary? Very sad for everyone involved in many ways.

Yeah there have been crimes on our trails and parks, too. It is sad and scary and keeps reinforcing to me the benefits of running in a group when possible. Stay safe!

Do they ever have undercover cops go out and run the trail to catch these guys?

One of my Ohio running buddies was a cop, and she went undercover as a runner to catch a flasher who was haunting our trail once. Justice was done!

So frustrating. I'm glad they caught and arrested the little sh-t thugs. Oy!

I would like to add that I'm not scared! I still love Chicago and still want to live there!

We have that problem on our MTB trail in DC. In the past few months we get people robbed at gunpoint, hit with a tazer or just pushed off their bikes. The cops were having a problem with the trail because it's not as easy for them to get to, because there aren't cross streets and most people can't really say where they are on the trail to dispatch. Our current group of ruffians were caught, thanks to neighborhood people, cops and guardian angels in the area. Of course, I'm sure they'll be released in a couple weeks and start doing it again.

Yikes! That sounds scary!

We're blessed in the fact that the CPD rocks and the City has taken these attacks VERY serious. Martin and I have noticed that there are now cameras that are along the length of the bike path and through the Museum Campus that provide a live feed to the CPD. On top of that, I've noticed cop cars driving up and down the actual path. Just last night, I was passed by 5 CPD on bikes riding up and down the path. They have a heavy concentration starting at McCormick Place heading south. That makes me feel very good, because I've always been creeped out running that section by myself. Especially since the latest attacks have happened around 31st street beach. The attempted rape and then the bike incident. Stay safe out there!

Dang, my blood boils when I read things like this! I'm praying that we all stay safe.
