I know I've groused about this before, but I live and run in an area with a lot of dogs and a lot of dogs that run free (and a lot of dogs that run free with dog owners that couldn't care less if they chase you or worse). I had to pepper spray one the other day after he has got after me several times and I have reported him several times. I really wanted to shoot it, but I sprayed instead. It barely phased him - had to spray him 3 times and he finally peeled back. Does anyone know of or could recommend a powerful pepper spray (or alternative) that will stop a dog in it's tracks? One that produces instant death would be the best, but I'll settle for just getting it away from me. It's probably not a big deal to many people, but I am scared to death of those things and every time one gets after me it damn near makes me sick. I've seen bear spray, but it is mostly too big to carry in a pocket. I've found this http://www.pepperblaster.com/, but dont know anything about it.

Ideas?

Google 'dog dazer'. I used to use one during bike rides and it'll stop a dog in it's tracks. Usually. Shocked

Twice last week I had dogs charge into the street after me, while their owners just stood there, making no effort to stop them, call them back, etc. Why are some people such friggin idiots!? I dont have advice for you, and I always feel bad for the dog in that situation (not their fault their owner is an asshole) but you have to protect yourself.

A cyclist friend of mine used to get chased by packs of aggressive dogs until she hit upon the idea of carrying a baggie of cut-up pepperoni sticks with her. As the dogs approached, she tossed them out as doggie treats.

After that, the dogs would still approach, but their tails were wagging.

I don't know if it'd help in your case, but it might be worth a try.
