Hahaha so freaking cool. We're an environmentally inconsiderate bunch, aren't we?
Re: Chicago Marathon Aid Station Before and After
Clean up is amazingly fast. Right behind the last runners are garbage trucks and street sweepers. Everything is shoveled into bags and tossed in the trucks, and then the sweepers come in right behind that. It took only 15 minutes or so to make the street look entirely normal again!
Making that nicely organized table of stacked and filled cups took around 2 hours though!

Which Aid Station was that?
Friends of mine were a couple of the hams providing communications support and I just read their synopsis from their vantage point, Aid Station 7.
Cheers, Clark

That's State Street, so that's got to be the very first aid station.

That's a great set of pics! I'd be curious how long was the time between the 1st runner that came by and the last, even at the first aid station.

For those who asked, yes it was the first station at mile 1.85.
The total working time with people going by was just under an hour. I didn't look at the exact time, and wish now that I did. First, the wheel chairs and a couple of blind runners with guides came through and that took a bit since, after the elite wheel chairs, there were some fairly slow ones and the runners with guides were behind those. I'm not sure why there were blind runners with guides before the elites, unless they were almost at that level of speed? That might have been the case as the ones that I saw were moving a good clip and I later saw another runner with a guide in with all of the regular runners who was moving much slower.
Next, there was a short pause, and then the elites came through followed by a group of faster runners which I assume was either the first coral or the slower runners in the elite group. Then came the masses. It was neat to see them coming down the street in full force. Once the regular runners arrived, it took maybe 20-30 minutes or so for all of them to pass by, with the bulk in the middle of that. Then there was a period of 5-10 minutes or so of a trickle of slower runners/walkers. I was surprised at the number of people looking beat up and walking very slowly at mile 1.85. But I suppose there are always a number who just sign up and show up without training or who don't know what they are in for.
We were completely done, as in having the street clean and stuff put away, a bit before 9am. We started the day at 5am.

Carleen, I forgot to look for you although it would have been hard with the quantity of tables and volunteers. Thanks for volunteering!
