Bittersweet

Post  Dave-O on Mon Oct 31, 2011 5:06 pm

A Fleet Feet teammate of mine, now running on the Army team, ran the Marine Corps Marathon.

The good: He won.

The bad: He ran 2:19:16, missing the OTQ by 16 seconds. He seems to be pleased enough with the victory and PR, but man....so close!!!!!!

I read about Chad today on letsrun. Sounds like he didn't even decide to push for a OTQ until mid-way through the race. He's young enough where he should continue to improve though I would think?

Great run for him because it sounds like he was running alone for the last chunk of the race.

Wow! Congrats to him on the incredible time but I'm sorry he missed it by a nose.

16 freaking seconds - wow, that was close. Glad he is OK with it though. I can't even imagine.....

I looked on Letsrun and didn't see anything. Can you post a link?

I would think too, but he worked his tail off to get from 2:22 to 2:19. Hopefully this was a breakthrough for him.

Wow, so close. I have a friend here in GA that missed qualifying 2x by only a few seconds. Now that they tightened the standards, he is off my 2-3 min. Glad your friend is ok with it as he obviously has the potential.

The winner of the Portland marathon was from Central Oregon (Bend). She missed qualifying for the OT by 28 seconds...in her FIRST marathon. She considered trying to qualify at another marathon this fall but decided to wait. At age 24 she has time to try again in 4 years.

Bend has at least one female and one male marathoner qualified for the OT. Max King has several national championships to his name as a trail runner. He's not positive he'll compete in January. He took the time to come to our rural community about an hour from Bend and put on a clinic last month. Neat guy and it's fun to follow his success.
