True, true. But the recovery needs aren't any less.  I am finding the demands for sleep, naps, extra meals, ice and/or Epsom baths every bit as hard as the miles.  120 miles in the context of a work week and social life is tough...

Michele \"1L" Keane wrote:Hope you made it.  It was nice to know that we shared a day of good runs as my progression run went very well also.  Of course, I went from 9:15 per mile down to 7:55.  Those 6-7 min days are so long gone, but I can still feel as good at the finish, right?

Hell yeah...as long as you feel great at the end, who cares about the pace?

Post  Dave-O Mon Dec 30, 2013 3:53 pm

Day 27: 6 easy (7:56) and 10 easy (6:56)

Day 28: 26.21 in 2:58:48, 6:49 pace.  My first ever marathon distance training run! I'm not going to lie, it was very mentally challenging.  Typically when I get to 15-16 miles, my mindset is, "No problem, just about 30 more minutes."  That's not the case when you're aiming for 26.2. And its very tempting to call it at 22 and still have a solid day complete. It was great to fight through those thoughts and complete the full distance.  I had a nice negative split of 1:32:30 and 1:26:18. I got to work on my fueling and drinking.  I held off the cramps, but I could sense my legs tightening up in the last 4 miles.

It will be interesting to see how I recover. I am definitely not opposed to more 26 mile training runs, but I think I'd prefer the two days prior to be easier.  34 miles on Thursday and Friday, though at an easy pace, didn't allow me to come into this run fully fueled or fresh.  That will change for the Icebreaker Indoor Marathon next month.

Day 29: 7.8 miles easy (7:3) and 5 miles (untimed).  I woke up and could barely bend my knee.  Awesome. So I didn't make it out of the marathon distance run completely unscathed.  I popped Advil and iced the shit out of it all day.  I was able to log two easy miles, but I wouldn't say they were pain-free. Hopefully its just a minor tweak and will be fine when the swelling subsides.

Let's hear your thoughts on the what-if's for the Bears and McCown. Should he have been the QB the last few weeks?
I know Julius P. blew it when letting AR out of the pocket on the last TD(not Cutler's fault), but Cutler is what...1-9 against GB!

Interesting about the knee. Wonder if it had todo with so much time on the dread ill? I know many people log lots of miles on the mill but I'm always sore if I log too many even with elevation changes. To me it still isn't the same. Hopefully it is nothing though.

I don't think Cutler vs. McCown ending up making a difference.  Cutler beat the Browns. The Eagles game was out of control before the QB could do anything about it, and that offense could have hung 80 on the Bears D.  And Cutler cannot be blamed for last night's loss in any way.  They lost for the same reason they lost most games this year - the Defense couldn't get a stop when it mattered.

I hate using W-L records for a QB.  They lose to Green Bay because Green Bay is a better team.  That being said, I am glad I am not the one that has to make the decision on Cutler. I personally don't think he's worth 15 million per year.  The city is quite divided over it.  But I trust Emery and Trestman. If Trestman wants Jay as his QB, Emery will oblige and get it done.

Probably. I violated my general rule not to exceed 50% on the treadmill this week because of crappy weather and time crunches with the holidays.

Ha! Cheer up, the Trent Richardson trade looks great.

What I meant was that for the 3 games of the Cutler or McCown debate: (1) Either would have beaten the Browns; (2) neither would have beaten the Eagles; and (3) Cutler isn't why they lost to the Packers.  So that isn't why they missed the playoffs.

Day 30: 6 and 8 easy. Still quite fatigued from the 26.2, but my knee felt better. That leaves me at 482...

Oh man so so close!

Also by the way I think we will be able to map out the course into longer segments. I did the 10.30 run I created and had no issues. So, I think I'm going to try and put together some more longer Boston course runs.

I'm heading to the gym now to do 12 with hill repeats. Then checking into the JW Marriott for a Wedding tonight. Groom and I already have plans to hit the gym/spa at 4 for the final 6 miles and a good steam.

Nice! I can't wait to come hang out with Kristina some more!

I mapped my Boston simulator course from mile 15 in Wellesley. It gives you a good flat warm up with that tough downhill at the Lower Falls and then the hills and the end. It is a taxing run .

Post  Dave-O Mon Jan 06, 2014 1:15 pm

yeah, my posting fell off, huh?  That's what a wedding on the 31st, Grandma's 95th bday on the 1st, sister's rehearsal dinner on the 2nd, and sister's wedding on the 4th will do.

Yes, I hit 500 on the nose. My last two days were 6 easy and 8 easy, and then 12 with hill repeats and 6 easy on the 31st.

I've took it easy the rest of the week.  Totaled 90 miles, which was a nice stepback from 124.  Very Happy

I would say you have been a little busy! Happy birthday to Grandma and huge congrats to Sarah, looks like it was a lot of fun minus the bad weather.

Also congrats on hitting you mileage goal for December! And yes as funny as it sounds running 90 seems a lot easier after running 120 plus!
