Smoothies!
So a couple of months ago I finally bought myself a decent blender. Why it took me so long is beyond me. It's so convenient I am realizing to have a powerful blender that can pulvarize apples, strawberries, greens, etc. Everyday I am home now I have at least one smoothie that contains 3-5 servings of fruit/veggies. It's without a doubt one of the best purchases I have made in quite some time.
Anyone have good smoothie recipes to share? I have 3-5 go to versions and use Scott Jurek's recipes from his newer book as well. All delicious.
Typically I'll do some combination of the following:

- Almond milk

- Banana
- Frozen mango chunks or some other type of citrus (or OJ)
- Rolled oats (optional)
- Udo's Oil (optional)
- Spirulina (optional)
- Protein powder w/ glutamine
- Handful of spinach

Re: Smoothies!
I've used yogurt, plain, vanilla, or whatever flavor works for you, bags of frozen fruit work well, and kale is a good additive in place of the spinach. Apples and pears both work well too.

Re: Smoothies!
I don't usually use a recipe, per say, but use frozen fruit + water (I can't drink milk but if I did, it would taste better I'm sure), yogurt, spinach or another good leafy green veggie is great. If you want official recipes I have the Vitamix whole foods cook book and I can sure share some of them. I usually make sure one of my fruits is a banana since they give a good texture. I love buying fruit in season on sale in bulk and then freezing it. I bought 5 flats (55 lbs) of strawberries last May and we still have plenty.

Re: Smoothies!
We have smoothies for breakfast every week day. I gave up Diet Coke and traded it for a smoothie. Mine are always a base of skim milk, vanilla greek yogurt and a banana, and then some combo of frozen fruit. I keeps bags of all sorts of things in the freezer. I don't try to add greens since I eat a lot of veggies with my other meals.

Awesome. But I'll try Justin's Honey Almond Butter. I'm obsessed with this stuff at the moment.

Re: Smoothies!
Nutribullet pulverizes anything. Spinach, frozen banana, blueberries, strawberries, almonds, flax seed, plant fusion protein.
Re: Smoothies!
Found this in Trail Runner Magazine. It makes beet juice tolerable.
- 8 oz coconut water
- one medium sized cooked and cooled beet
- one peeled orange
- one chopped, frozen banana
- 4 dried, pitted dates
- 2 tsp fresh ginger
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Blend low to high until smooth.
Supposed to be great 60-90 minutes before a tough run.

Re: Smoothies!
had three beers and 1/4 pound of jelly beans watching the game last nite. maybe they would have tasted better blended. you guys eat way too healthy for me. I eat whatever's put in front of me. I just try and watch calories to maintain weight. When you get old you don't care. you enjoy life - and yes I will have a glass of red wine with dinner Sunday night.

Hey man, I devoured a whole pan of brownies in 24 hours, starting Sunday night. Then again, I rode for 3hrs Sunday and ran yesterday, but still...

Not if you were a woman over 50.......we watch every calorie. However, I too will have a glass of wine the night before Boston since it will help me fall asleep.

Not a sleep issue for me, just don't want to make any sudden changes to my training regimen.

Re: Smoothies!
I can't just eat sugar and junk or I'll feel awful. I don't always eat perfectly but definitely can tell a difference when I eat mostly healthy vs too much grease or sugar.

You're welcome.
Nutella, frozen bananas, ice, and milk of choice.
I imagine it would work well with greek yogurt instead of milk, too.
Why do so many people put kale(yuck) in their smoothies--Use pomegranates with the seeds instead.
Hmm, we need to find a bacon smoothie recipe. Everyone loves bacon--even Vegans.

I think that should be pre-Boston. Looks like it would be some solid carb loading!

Might be a good choice for me pre-Boston.

Kale IS good stuff. But I decided to challenge my inner chef and come up with ingredients that sound disgusting but might plausibly work together. Note: I'd suggest a good dark, heavy beer, like a stout or porter, not some gawdawful wimpy lager.

I'm such an alcohol connoisseur, I'm glad you clarified! Hey if you make the smoothie you should share how it tasted at least.
