I've been out too
Well after having the race of my life in Toledo to get a BQ-5 I have been mostly shelved since. During the recovery I blew out my ankle and was in a walking boot for a while. Once I was able to start up I of course was an idiot and went too much, too fast, with too many hills too soon. So of course I partially tore my achilles. I've had a chronic problem with it for a decade but always managed to keep it under control. Not this time.
I'm doing PT. My whole right leg is off. Doing a ton of eccentric heal drops. I've given up on the fall and JFK. My main goal is Boston in the spring.
Been doing some cycling and pool stuff but even that causes problems. So mentally it's been a bit difficult. It's about the only thing that keeps me out of trouble. Oh well.

Dang!! Sorry to hear about the injuries Alex. The main thing you should be focused on is getting healthy again. And hopefully in time for Boston. Good luck on the comeback trail!!

You've got a ton of time until even base building for Boston should be thought of. GET HEALTHY. Promise yourself that you'll not run another 8+ miler before Thanksgiving and instead focus on cross training and staying off the ankle.

Re: I've been out too
Bummer Alex - what is the timeframe for complete recovery according to the PTs? Of course I understand completely the desire to get back out there quickly (and the inability to not do it sometimes), but I'll second Chris in that you've got a lot of time. If you get only partially ready for Boston but still get to go, that would imo be far better than jacking it up worse and not getting to run it at all... Hang in there buddy...

Really sorry to hear this. Saw your post in my blog, and hoped you were healing up well, but then saw this. Take it easy, easy, easy. It would be a shame to get to Boston still injured, or even not to get there, especially this year.

Augh! That's horrible news! I know it's got to be driving you crazy, but listen to your PT and take it easy-easy-easy and give your body the time it needs to heal. It'll take longer than you want it to, but you will get back to where you want to be. Hang in there!

Well time to move forward buddy, just take your time this time around and don't rush things. Once you do things the right way and don't rush it the faster you will be back. Good luck with the recovery and getting back and just be patience with it. I know it's tough but it will payoff in the long run.

Yes, yes to all the above UNLESS you'd like to cut off your right leg and transplant another one.
Just rest it.
Just rest it.

Patience grasshopper. Continue with the PT. It works wonders. Consistency with the PT will help you through this rough patch. Stick with it.

When I had Achilles issues nothing but rest would work. Even heel exercises where no go. Mine wasn't a tear but dam close. You'll get back patience is key. Find another desire, reading writing, etc. I found solace is that and meditating.

Dang, take care Alex. The one star on the horizon is Boston and you have ample time to heal before training for it. Be cautious, be smart...I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from.

How have you been coming along by now, Alex? Hope all is well.

Re: I've been out too
I know the run/walk gets pretty boring after a very short while. Bringing the longer running, less walking into play too soon can raise up and bite you like a darn snake in the grass. That's where I'm at right now. Really, really want to run longer runs and walk less as I increase the mileage. Take care, Alex.Alex Kubacki wrote:Thanks Jon. I just started some easy jog/walk stuff.
