Re: Back to my Natal State
Just lost my post but I'm back to slow running and walking, started at 19 days post birth. It feels really good in that I love running and really missed it. My heart and body are totally not in shape, though (round is a shape..I know....but really). I still have a ton of weight to lose but have started tracking with My Fitness Pal more faithfully. I've been running 3-4 miles 4-5 days a week with just walking on the off days.

Wow Julie. That's an impressive amount of running so quickly. I know how you feel though...it's just an essential part of our lives. Don't overdo it but enjoy!

Re: Back to my Natal State
Thanks Nancy! Things are coming back. I'm losing weight after a way-too-long plateau and on Veteran's day ran with a veteran friend who has a Garmin and we ran 5 miles at 10:04, which amazed me. I feel like the speed is sort of coming back, the distance I'm not pushing because of nursing, and just not having run all year until September, I think for injury prevention sake it's probably best to keep the miles low at this point.
I think I found a come back race, though! 21 miler trail race in Omaha next Oct. I have been wanting to get into trail running and maybe in the next 5 yrs or so get into ultras. I've run the 2 50Ks so far and I think with kids being older, a 50K or 50 miler will be more feasible in a few years.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I've been terrible about getting on the computer and every time I get on my tablet here, I lose my post, which is frustrating because it's already tedious typing on it. But I have been checking on your running, regardless, even if I don't comment, which I do apologize for.

Great picture! And with your experience in road ultras, I bet transitioning to trails will be a lot fun.

Re: Back to my Natal State
It's been awhile since I've updated . We started house hunting and all that goes with that a few months ago . We looked for acreages but there was really nothing in our price range near enough to our jobs . So, we found a house not far from our home we lived in 8 yrs and just moved on March 1st. We put our old house on the market last Tuesday and accepted an offer within 24 hrs! So, that's been keeping us busy. We did a lot go get our old house looking nice for the market.
For running , I'm up to 7 miles at a 9:30 ish pace. I'm planning on the 21 miler still in Oct .
Baby weight - still have 10 lbs to go. Hoping that spring and more miles helps with that .

Nice to hear from you Julie. It's good to know that you're well and still managing to fit running into a very busy life. Where's the latest photos of the kids?

Re: Back to my Natal State
I need to get photo bucket again to share pics. Sorry for the long absence , it's just been very busy with kids and house projects and everything .
I hurt my knee on labor day , I think bad combination of adding speed and miles. So I've been trying to rest a lot and do my pt exercises . There were days I had stabbing pain just walking or couldn't walk for a few minutes due to the pain . A PT I work with suggested seeing an ortho Dr but I decided to wait for the new year since we haven't touched our deductible and she thought that was reasonable . She just suggested it might be good to see what is actually going on. But my PT friend I run with said muscle imbalances just get worse as we get older so I am doing the exercises .
So, I didn't run the 21 miler . I have run up to 14 mi, for long run. The last few weeks I've been able to run 4 miles every other day more or less .
I do have some cute pics, and the kids are doing well .

Re: Back to my Natal State
Hi! Welcome back!
Getting the knee checked out is a good idea. I had some problems this year and eventually ended up getting a cortisone shot, which helped a lot, and a ton of PT exercises to do, which I think will help me a lot going forward. Sometimes when a knee gets angry with you, it just takes some time for the inflammation to subside. Hoping that's your case.

Re: Back to my Natal State
Hey...glad you had time to stop in. I know how busy kids your age...and house projects can keep you. Good to hear the kids and house are doing well...sorry about the knee. I agree that having it looked at is probably a good idea after this much time. Hope it's nothing serious and that you're back to running as much as you'd like/have time for soon.
Happy New Year.

Howdy, Julie! Sucks being hurt, but time can take care of non-structural failures. Mark is the Crown Prince of PT Exercises, so he can give you tons of exercises. And yes, imbalances in the muscle chain will create havoc. Please get the PT to check out your shoes to see if they are too thick (cushioned).
Looking forward to seeing more photos! Stay warm up there.

Welcome back Julie! We all need to take time off now & then. Even so, a random few mile run can do wonders as a pick me up. Do post some pics when you're able.
Cheers!

Re: Back to my Natal State
Not having the easiest time with photo sharing, not sure why. Photobucket wasn't cooperating and when I preview message it's just blank. How are you posting photos mostly these days?
I'm doing OK. Knee has been OK just for 4 miles. It was ridiculously cold between Christmas and the 6th. We had nice 40s today after subzero actual temps for too long. Kids got out and biked and played in snow for a few hrs with me. ( I just held the baby/16mo old Eliana, because she is a snuggler and doesn't want to get wet in the snow).

Because a photo this good needs to be 'quoted' time and time again.Julie wrote:Finally on the desktop! Tablet and photobucket copying/pasting are not friends.

You have done well...or how we say it down here, you done good. I'm sure Eliana will be making snow angels in a couple of years. Enjoy this new cold snap.
