I don't think it's a hoax. People in this country don't understand math. That's one of the reasons why we are falling behind so fast. Here's a simple real-life math problem that I encountered at a real restaurant in my college days. I've asked it many times over the years and hardly anyone comes up with the right answer. The responses I get often sound like that woman in the video.
Here is your problem:
Two very hungry men go to a pizza place for lunch. Both like simple cheese pizza. The restaurant has a lunch special. You can get a 6" pizza for $5. On the regular menu they have a 10" pizza for $10. Is it a better deal to each order a 6" or should they split a 10"?
Most people get it wrong anyway, but you should be able to do the problem in your head. So bonus points if you don't use paper. I swear that less than 10% of people I have asked get this right.

simple in the head math problem I agree. pi r 2. In your head using pi as 3 (3x3x3) you can easily come up with 27" of pizza for the 6" for $5 compared with (3x5x5) = 75" of pizza for $10 / 2 = 37.5" for $5. Buy the bigger pie using pi and split the cost with your buddy. You get more than 1/3 more za.
Far more difficult to figure out how fast I will run Boston >

Two 6 pizzas = 57sq inches
One 10 pizza = 79sq inches
Geometry is FUN!

That's pretty good keeping that all "in your head". A simpler way to do it in your head is this:
two 6" pizzas = 2 x 3 x 3 x PI = 18PI
one 10" pizza = 1 x 5 x 5 x PI = 25PI
A single 10" gives you more PI and therefore you get more pie!

I always wonder what the 6/10" meant. 15 years in this country, I finally got it.

That would be great...all they did was a web chat and she still messed up a math question.

Re: Somewhat running related
Oh and this also reminds me of a farmer I knew here in the deep south. He sent his son off to the University of Georgia. He was so proud as this was the first member of his family to go to college. When he came home for Christmas break the farmer asked, "Son, what did they teach you there at UGA?." The son said, "Well Pa, we learned about PI R Squared." The farmer hung his head and said, "Son, I don't know who them college folks think they are, but any fool knows that cornbread are squared. Pie are round!"@ssilvert wrote:
