PR at the Belmar 5! (quickie)
I've run this 5 out of 6 years as it is a great summer race. My PR is 35:13 on this course it's 35:15. Goal was to at least go sub 35 and based on my HM time I should be running this in the low 33:xx but that was based on winter/fall HM races.
It was not as warm as last year but very humid, 70's cloudy. Plan was 6:55 splits for the first 1-2 miles and see how I feel.
Ended up running about 7:02 first mile. I felt it was soft but at the same time my confidence was a bit low not running a 5 miles race since last year. I cruised (not easy, but could have picked it up a bit) the next few miles at just under 7:00.
As I crossed my 4 split I was about 15 seconds behind sub 35. Although my watch said only around 5 seconds. So, something was a much. Probably their timer!
So, poured water over my head and picked up the pace to 6:50 saving some for a kick at the end. I decided around 600m to start it. I was in an all out sprint passing at least 10 people head of me touching down on around 4:45 pace racing one kid (25 year old) to the finish line. I out kicked him by 1 second.
I crossed at 34:47 about a 30 sec. PR.
Although it was a good PR it does not nearly equate to my 5k, 10m, or HM times. As of now the 5 mile distance is actually my slowest all considering.
That said my PR times in these other distances are all during cooler months.
Next up is the Belmar 5k in a few weeks.

Great job Kenny! Don't worry about the 5 miler not lining up with the rest of them...the temps make a huge difference as you know. You look to be in great shape.

Great job, Kenny, especially in not ideal conditions. Seems like you paced it very well.

Congrats on the new PR Kenny. It is tough to compare races run at different times of year and in different weather conditions. You nailed a solid PR and that says a lot. Keep up the good work.
