You must pick ONE!
Now that the Olympics are over, what was your favorite moment/event of the Olympics? Like the title says, you have to pick ONE.
I got with Fareh-Rupp finishing 1-2 in the 10k. Its the only time I was literally screaming at the TV.

Watched that at Chiles in Mexico City airport and I was also yelling and pounding the bar, it didn't translate! They kept showing a split screen of the Mexican runner in 20th place, ka funny!Dave-O wrote:Now that the Olympics are over, what was your favorite moment/event of the Olympics? Had to be Badminton... I mean, that Zhao Yunlei girl won gold in doubles AND mixed doubles to become the 1st ever to win double gold medals in Badminton in Olympic history! That's compelling stuff, right there...

Re: You must pick ONE!
Crud, I would have said exactly the same thing Dave did - the 10K finish. I jumped off the treadmill and was yelling my head off. But I refuse to have my answer be the same as Dave's so I'm saying...
Bolt's 4x100M finish. The 100M and 200M wins were of course amazing too but they just built up the expectation that Bolt would again deliver in the relay and man, did he ever. That moment where he got the baton basically even with the US guy or even a fraction behind and then hit the accelerator....WOW. Moment of the Games for me.

Bolt is just so dam exciting to watch. I'd say the 100m then 200m then 400m relay.
Runner up. Women beach volleyball. They are awesome.

McKayla, unimpressed.
(Okay, actually, my choice is the Mo-Galen finish in the 10K.)

Re: You must pick ONE!
I would go with Rudisha's tour de force in the 800, with everyone else hanging on for PRs in his wake.
Non-competition pick would be the angels in the closing ceremony.
My lowlight was the women's 1500. Gold medal winner was a previous drug cheat, silver is suspicious, slow winning time, Uceny falls. All of it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: You must pick ONE!
Besides the men's 10K, I thought the women's semifinal soccer match against Canada was amazing. I was lucky to be watching that while on the treadmill. If I wasn't working out at the time I would have missed it. Canada scored, then the US tied it up. Canada scored, then the US tied it up. Canada scored, then the US tied it up.
We go into extra time tied at 3-3. In the last seconds of OT before it would have gone to penalty kicks, Wamback kicks what looks like the winning goal. But it hits the crossbar and bounces off. And just when you think there is no time left for another attack, Alex Morgan scores on a header to put the US in the gold medal game.

Sorry Dave, I can't pick just one. This wasn't covered by the US broadcast, but it was a truly great moment!

Since mine has already been picked, except for Mr. Bean in the opening ceremony, I'll pick the badminton scandal. Who doesn't love a wicked 3-way among Korea, Indonesia and China? I wonder who got the short ......._ock?

Apparently McKayla isn't the only athlete with a Tumblr.
More awesome Mo mash-ups at Mo Farah running away from things.

Men's 800m. Simply draw jopping. Name the last time a race at 800m or above in the Olympics broke a WR. It just doesn't happen. The shame of it is it barely got any press.

Women's soccer semi (Stan has it above). It was especially exciting because my 16 year old daughter was on a really good travel soccer team and was really into the game, and though it was tape-delayed, we had no idea what happened in the end. Frickin' awesome!

Apparently you and Stan didn't have chance to see the final or don't know much about soccer.

Re: You must pick ONE!
Nah, Stan is right. Anyone who watched both games would pick the Semi over the Final as the memorable one. I do think that Canada got completely robbed by the ref. That was a truly horrible game deciding call - I've never seen such a ticky tack whistle and to give an indirect only 14 yards out? Insane. That led to the penalty which of course led to the US getting the eqaulizer and the amazing last second Morgan goal. There was so much incredible drama in that Canada game.Jerry wrote:Michael Enright wrote:Women's soccer semi (Stan has it above).
