Too PC or too tolerant?
This picture at PSU has attracted lots of negative publicity. I'm not all that bothered by it. Have I become too tolerant or has society become too PC? Or is it just because it's Penn State?
Oh, and to make this running related, I'm sure that some of these sorority girls run to stay in shape when they are not mowing lawns for weed.

Re: Too PC or too tolerant?
I think the problem is social media. Frankly, we did things in college and took pictures that would fire up anyone today in our somewhat sensitive PC world. Case in point: a friend moved from one building to another on Marlboro St in downtown Boston (Back Bay). We rolled her bed down the street with her boyfriend and her in it wearing PJs. It was funny and it was college. I bet we would be arrested today.

Everywhere I went in Europe, I heard the same thing: we're too sensitive.
Re: Too PC or too tolerant?
Ridiculous.
Go to Madison on Halloween and every other person is wearing an 'offensive' costume.
Lighten up people.
To go off on a tangent I heard Piers Morgan make the same argument about General Petraus (sp?). Is it fair he was fired for a personal discretion? European leaders do it all the time and keep their jobs. (His argument).

Just another case of anti-reefer madness.
They need to spend some time in Washington and mellow out.

Ha! I find it funny, but at the same time it's not news worthy! Sheesh! Circulating around the internet...fine. To make national news on CBS...that's just plain sad. There are bigger fish to catch and release!
Like Michele, there are lots of pranks. Similar to hers...I was a in high school (all of the gals underage) girls service group that would initiate the new pledges every year by kidnapping them in the middle of the night...driving them around town to do various deeds (tp'ing houses etc), then head over to Denny's for breakfast at 2:00 am, all of them in pjs. After curfew. No big deal!
Lighten up nation!

I'm shocked that anyone could find the picture offensive and I wish you all a Happy Christmas (sorry, not allowed to say that) Holiday.

Yet another reminder of how glad I am social media didn't really exist during my college years.

I am leaning towards too sensitive...but knowing that we are in a more sensitive world, I am more cognizant of things.

Re: Too PC or too tolerant?
I take the point: times change and, to some extent, we have to change with them. What we (and I really mean the Governing Council of Chi Omega Fraternity) should not be doing is condemning people for activity that is not (yet) taboo.Nick Morris wrote:I am leaning towards too sensitive...but knowing that we are in a more sensitive world, I am more cognizant of things.
Personally, I found the photo amusing and I think it's the sort of team-building event that should be encouraged. But that is not important. I can understand and politely disagree with people who want to change the acceptability of racially based humour. The important word is "change". These girls are being punished for something that is (still) perfectly acceptable to most people.

Not you particular. Just in general, when we say others are sensitive, doesn't that automatically indicates we are.
Half kidding, don't take Jerry seriously. Nobody does.
