PR at MRR Empty PR at MRR

This continues to be the year of PRs for me (praise Jesus!) I shaved off 16 seconds for a 30:14 finish at yesterday’s cold & windy Manchester Road Race (ave 6:22 pace.) That put me in the top 2% overall & top 3% in my age group. I would have come much closer to breaking 30 if not for the wind & a lot of people in the wrong corral. I had to weave around a bunch of little kids & even more adults that should have started behind me.

For those of you not familiar with this race:

  • 4.748 mile loop with steep hills
  • 15,000 participants
  • 77th year for this race, so it has a lot of history
  • Past winner list includes John Kelley & Amby Burfoot (who btw, finished his 51st MRR yesterday)

My goal for the Blue Back Square Mitten Run 5K on 12/8 is to get a sub 19:05, so I can get into the sub 30 corral at next year’s MRR.

I hope everyone had as nice of a Thanksgiving as I had!

Woot!  Way to go, Dave.  So, how many more PR's (or races) besides the Dec 8 run are you going to have over the next couple of months?

Nice job Dave. Sure was cold waiting in the chute!

I think you will have problems at the start with slow runners no matter what corral you are in at MRR. They seem to hand out favorable placements as treats to friends, and I've talked to people who were way up front who had no reason to be in those corrals many times. So, best you'll do is get in that first one behind the elites (and Amby and his family, who were right at the front, despite running more like my daughter and I did than like you did), and get there early and line up in the front of that corral behind a Kenyan, or Donny Cabral, or an Irish guy!

This sounds like a difficult race to get a good time, but you certainly did. Averaging 6:22 pace with hills, wind and people in the way - that's quite something.
