Boston Weather
Couldn't resist but right now the 21-day forecast shows the 21st day of April with a high of 55F and a low of 32F. After the winter that most of us have had, wouldn't it be great if it was that perfect.

Re: Boston Weather
I so hope that is right! I figure I'll be crossing the starting line after 11:00 AM so I'll hit the heat of the day then.

Oh, good Lord. Forecasting out that far is like picking the winning teams in March Madness, before it starts.
There, there, 1L. Taper Madness won't start for you for another few days.

Re: Boston Weather
10 days out, the skies for the 21st look beautiful with a high pressure system centered over Lake Michigan and its effects clearing out the Boston area after an apparent Nor'easter blows through Saturday night.
Can't really and accurately guess what it'll be, this far out.
weather channel is saying for sunday 57 for a high and 44 sunday night.

Re: Boston Weather
Still looks like the best chance of rain is Saturday evening, as what will be over St. Louis on Friday gets to Boston on Saturday evening.
And it looks to be humid (70-90%), but under high pressure and cool in the 40's on Monday morning with winds out of the WNW. I don't know how wind direction will vary, the closer you get to the coast.
So, from Friday's maps to today's, it is holding that Saturday evening will be wet and Monday morning will be cool in the 40's. Certainly NOT a 70+ degree day.

Re: Boston Weather
Right now, the rain on Saturday evening looks to be a non-event, as it's forecast that a huge high pressure system will be in place Saturday evening through the race, which means good conditions and a bit cooler to where there may be frost on the rooftops in Hopkinton. Cloud cover on Sunday night will determine if frost occurs.
Still looking like light west winds and a high temp at barely 60 degrees. I'd say the weather is marathoner friendly, for sure.

Re: Boston Weather
No changes, except for Monday evening where there's a chance of light rain. Monday at sunrise in the high 30's in Hopkinton and a high of 61.
This huge high pressure that's setting up on Saturday is centered in Northern Quebec and runs all the way into the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. It will be breaking down Monday from the Chicago area eastward. But that won't be an issue for the race...just maybe that evening.

Looks good, one less thing to stress over...starting with hat, gloves, maybe arm warmers, all to be thrown off pretty early.

Re: Boston Weather
Weather look promising.
Will warm up noticeably, though.
Board the Bus: 36 degs
Start: 47 degs (10 am)
Finish: 58~60 degs
Saturday looks very good, granted that will be a short race. (Start Temp 41 degs, End Temp Better still be 41 degs...)

Re: Boston Weather
The huge high pressure that was to dominate the weekend appears to be moving away sooner, to the extent that instead of it being north and west of Boston, it is forecast to be north and east on Monday and was caused by the jet stream.
Temperatures are not, at this point, forecasted to change much for Monday, but I would expect a bit more humidity. This might even encourage some more cloudiness, which for me would be great. I love overcast skies for a race.
So, morning lows in the high 30's +/- 2 degrees and highs of 62 +/- 2 degrees with no rain still seems to be on target.

Re: Boston Weather
Nice forecast! I sure hope it holds for you. It's been cold in the Northeast in general, which is a good trend. But this far out, with the trend being to warmer temps and winds for days being from the south or thereabouts, don't be surprised if it warms up more than forecast on Monday. But I'll light a candle for you! Well, maybe not, as the CO2 might create global warming. Maybe a flashlight...

Re: Boston Weather
You may have noticed there is a lot of rain in the Southeast, Florida, Georgia, and the Gulf of Mexico. So I wondered, on the Friday before the marathon, is that rain going to be a Nor'easter for Monday? It's very nice that weather models are more accurate, the nearer the forecast window.
I've been mentioning all week about this huge high pressure system that is setting up in Quebec to cover the eastern part of the US. I can report the GFS models forecast this high pressure to block and deflect all this rain in the Southeast US easterly into the Atlantic. In football blocking schemes, this high pressure system is one-on-one blocking the low pressure system. No zone blocking. It's High vs Low and the High wins. And the runners cheer!
Enjoy the weather.
Below are some images from the GFS model. The time stamp of "00Z SUN 20 APR 14" is 7 pm ET Saturday. Z is zulu time or GMT in England. The last image equates to 7 a.m. on race day.
