Anyone ever run a hard 10k, ten days out from a marathon.  What were the ramifications?  did you recover fine?  Not at all?  Got hurt?  Just curious, am running the 10k turkey trot with the family 11 days out from CIM.  Have won my AG three yrs in a row and would like to defend, but that would require a reasonably hard effort.  Not PR, but probably about 60-90 seconds slower.  Thoughts?  Risks?  I know there is little reward.

Many programs/people suggest that 10 days out from a marathon is the best time for a last flush-the-legs workout.  I usually run my hardest tempo on that day.  A semi-raced 10k (10/15sec slower than PR) sounds like a hard tempo.

Back in the spring I ran an 8K 10 days out of Buffalo. Now the difference is this was also 3.5 weeks after Boston. Planned to run hard but not all out. I was actually leading so of course I pushed all the way. I ended up straining the hammy's a bit which hurt me at Buffalo. I think you can go hard but I wouldn't go to the well or anything which was what I did.

I have and I have actually raced a 10K one week before a marathon (of course, I was 29 then).  I, personally, would go for it, if and only if, I felt that I was not injured and that I wouldn't get injured.  So, for me, that would mean a very good warm up.
