Most Sedentary U.S. Cities
I just read this article today and found it interesting that Indianapolis made the list of least active.

I can't believe Memphis is not on that list. We are on every list of "Top Ten Bad Things." Obesity, crime, cholesterol, dirtiness, high school drop out rate, high school pregnancy rate . . .

I think Lincoln is pretty active or at least we get rated high for having bike/running trails so it's a bike commute friendly city. Good because my husband bikes to work every day.

Houston had it for a couple of years in a row. Something about a whole lot of restaurants and not too many fitness boxes.

Ha that is funny Bob. Yeah I'm surprised Indianapolis is on that list, I will just leave it at that.

Re: Most Sedentary U.S. Cities
I love that Atlanta has finally gotten itself off this list an on to the active city list. We have so many competitive runners, triathletes, swimmers now and an influx of young professionals - yeah Atlanta for being a fitter city!!!!!

Michele: How many of the runners you know actually live in the City proper? Many live in the burbs and bedroom communities. Atlanta/GA is certainly stratified in regard to fitness/active; it seems either you are, or you are NOT active.

Not sure why you guys are surprised about Indy being in the top 100. Sure, we're the amateur sports capital of america but that demographics stops around age 24. After that...it's fat, fat, fat! All I see are heavy people here.
Not surprised at all.

Along the same theme, check this out:
http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html
Albany, GA is probably too small to be ranked, but I know we have an adult obesity rate of a little over 31%. A little over 14% of adults have diabetes. That is really sad.

Usually a city in Michigan is topping some list --unemployment, foreclosures, murder, poverty, dropouts.....so good to know a Michigan city isn't at the top of this particular list.

It is sad. The Southeast really has overall, the highest rates.

True - homwever, many of my running friends actually live in Atlanta - the city - Druid Hills, Decatur, Virginia Highlands. Shoot - even I technically have an Atlanta address, and I only live 0.5 miles OTP (outside the Perimeter).
