In one part of the study, they looked at Haile's Berlin WR and wanted to see how he paced the race. Very interesting. Lots of microvariation each km but very little macrovariation per 5k. He runs the first part fast, 2nd third or so slower, and the final third fast again and almost perfectly symmetrical in a flat U shape.
For the ultramarathoners, it's interesting that the speed variance during the run was similar regardless whether they ran fast, medium, or slow.
