Anyone Here Running NYC?
It will be my first time running NYC Marathon. I'd like to break 2:45, but am hearing that it's a tough course. Any suggestions or advice? My current PR is 2:48. Running out of Orange Wave, corral #2, 9:40 am start time.

Re: Anyone Here Running NYC?
In both Boston and NYC, I was FULLY dressed with throw away clothes to keep myself warm. My fondest moment was seeing a guy with singlet and short, jumping up and down to keep warm at NYC, 2 hours before the start.
In NYC, don't rush to strip at least the upper body.
That's all I can advise a 2:48 marathoner.
Good luck, Don!
PS: I presume you have done some hill workout.

I'm running NYC and I've run it once before. My only advice to a 2:48 marathoner is check Broadwaybox.com for discounted show tickets, since it may not be worth waiting in line at TKTS when you have so little free time as it is. Have fun!

I'm running NY too, and it is also my 2nd time. However, I have no advice for a 2:45 marathoner but I hope to only be an hour after you! Enjoy the race it is a great one.
Re: Anyone Here Running NYC?
Jerry, thanks for the advice on the layers at the start. I kept my 2010 Boston mylar sheet so I think I'll bring that and a long-sleeve throwaway shirt.
As for show tix, I'll forward that info on to DW.
Oh, and hill training? Check. We have a monster hill not far from my house. I'll do repeats once every other week. Run 'em until I'm dry heaving, which is my gauge on being done with the repeats and ready to run back home.

Re: Anyone Here Running NYC?
I'm not running NY this year, (I'll be tapering for Philly) but like
last year, I'm looking forward to
a gathering in the city either Friday or Saturday night. I don't mind
starting a thread at the "races, event, and travel" forum sometime in the
next few days to try to organize a dinner. For now, just chime in here
if you're interested so we can start to get an idea of who'd like to come.

I ran NYC last year out of that same corral. My best advice is to save everything for the Queensboro (59th St) Bridge. If you come off that feelin' groovy you're going to have a great finish.

I'd love if we did a Friday dinner. I have a charity dinner Saturday - so my reasons are selfish! But it would be fun to see everyone...

Re: Anyone Here Running NYC?
I'm not arriving until Saturday midday with my daughter and we are seeing a matinee performance of Ave Q, so we are out for dinner. I hope to meet up if possible either at the Expo in the afternoon or after the race (we are not leaving until Monday) before we go the the hockey game.

Sunday after the race would be good for me too.

Re: Anyone Here Running NYC?
I have dinners planned with family members in NY. It seems like there is always family around when I race. That's a nice thing but I would also like to meet some of you in NY. So, dinners are out for me. I may be able to stop by the dinner location and say hello. Or, maybe lunch or something. Hopefully it will work out.
Re: Anyone Here Running NYC?
I'll go ahead an start a NYC dinner thread on the events forum.

Friday or Sunday post-race works for me. Like Michele, we promised daughter a Broadway show on Sat. Hoping for house seats to How to Succeed so Sarah can meet her future husband after the show...

I assume you have another "in" for House Seats? Otherwise I am wondering why you haven't asked! It's like, all I am good for...

I didn't know you were a house seat connection! Well chat later... I'm having a manicure now.

What? House seats? For what? Curious minds want to know.
