Just venting...

I booked a hotel in Illinois and just found out it is a smoking room on the 3rd floor which is dedicated to all smokers. Despite requesting no smoking room I am F'd.

The staff person said "I won't lie it stinks of smoke in the room and the hallways, you will smell it".

Not only am I sensitive to smoke but also to smokers. Like oil and vinegar. Not sure what I can do at this point as everything is booked. Can't say I am happy despite trying my best to find the purpose in all of this!

Time to pick up smoking.

That's ridiculous. I remember a little bit about your logistics - you aren't renting a car? Might make sense to book a room even as far away as Decatur or Danville and rent a car. The interstate will be wide open on a weekend morning (usually are just about any time anyway in that neck of the woods), and you're no more than an hour easy drive away. I'm expecting there's plenty of parking (the start is near the stadium, right?). Better to get a decent night's sleep and cough up some change for a rental car at Willard than to spend a miserable night near by. Might even be a room as close as Rantoul.

They emailed me confirmation and I just looked at it. I am partly responsible.

GOOD NEWS: A room opened up at the HAWTHORN SUITES I believe walking distance NON-SMOKING. I just booked it.

Good to hear, Kenny. That would definitely have blown (no pun intended).

I'm surprised that there are even smoking rooms available these days. A smoking room has two awful things going for it....the first being the stale smoke smell and the second being the perfume that they spray trying to cover up the stale smoke smell. Ugh.

Pretty gross. I smoke socially (rarely, maybe once a week at the most?), but the smell of it on someone else still turns my stomach a bit. Glad you found a new place.

I was surprised also that is why I must have missed that it was a smoking room. Who knew they still exists. What hotels do is they dedicate a floor to the smokers. Sort of like cattle to roam about the halls having a smoke fest. The staff person said it typically is all business people.

Glad it worked out. I'm really sensitive to smoke smells and would have a headache so fast it would be impossible. I live in a smoke-free city and I forgot there are restaurants and stuff that still have smoking sections until we went to Ft Worth last Feb. for Cowtown.
