First Race of 2013 Empty First Race of 2013

After 7 weeks of post-marathon training I did a 5k race. Not the ideal distance but I wanted to see where my fitness is and how I'd feel.

I can say my competitive spirit is on the low side of zero. Despite trying to find purpose I was mentally just not into it. This is no surprise (if you read my new blog) since my runs post marathon have all been just about getting it done. Not the best way to enjoy running.

Goal was 20:30ish

mile 1: 6:50 - I was going for 6:45 but just seemed off. Certainly was not smooth and my rhythm was off

mile 2 : 6:50 - I was planning on 6:35 but had no second gear and this where I said to myself "what am i doing this for."

mile 3: 6:40 - I promised my coach I'd give it my all and I did but could not muster anything faster at this point and was just shooting for sub 21. I was banking on a 6:30 pace here but did not happen.

My kick at the end was terrible. I actually got past by a kid that I past around mile 2.75 and despite trying to catch him I could not.

Overall 21:01 Not the best of times not the worst. Considering my mental state and physical state it was not that bad.

The pacing is pretty good. Then of cause it is easier when one is not full out.

I agree with Jerry - the take away is that for a 5k, your pacing was pretty right on. Congrats on getting it done.

Get with it would ya Kenny, just kidd'in. Nice test run. I think this time of year is definitely a somewhat dormant stage for most runners North of the equator.

Thanks for the comments! Looking at the splits overall it was run well. January racing is not exactly my prime time.
