Running USA Annual Survey
thought this article contains some interesting numbers. While the first sections date back to March, the last section on "core runner" profiles was just published a few days ago. Thought I'd share...

Re: Running USA Annual Survey
Not surpring: more than 70% of runners are college educated and have a household income of more than 75k.
Surprising: Men average 27 miles/week and women 21/week. RUN MORE!!!!!

Re: Running USA Annual Survey
I found the survey to be pretty cool to view but it is a survey so you have to take it for what it is worth.
Not surprised by the college education or the household income.
I would have to say that I'm surprised Dave that you were surprised by how many miles people were running per week. Ok maybe I thought the number would be a little higher but I'm not surprised.
As I have always felt and I think the survey just strengthen my belief even more that most people are running for exercise, weight concerns, having fun. They are doing it to stay in shape, stay healthy and reducing stress which are reasons the survey says people continue to run.
Now the number that I thought was cool but didn't surprise me was:
Highest Percent Masters (40 + yrs)* Boston Marathon that 56%
Another stat that was a little interesting to me was the married stats:
63.2% women married
71% men married.
For some reason I would have thought that number would have been the other way around.
Again it was cool to look at but I will take it as it is a survey.

Re: Running USA Annual Survey
I was kind of surprised about the overwhelming majority of runners being Caucasian. Then again, these results are from people who 1. knew about the study and 2. had the time/desire to respond to it.
Also surprised by how few men were happy with their weight. We're constantly bombarded by the "fact" that women aren't - I think this serves to perpetuate said "fact," but I digress... - but rarely hear the same coming from men.

Good point there Mike, I over looked that fact in men.
