It also looks like it is supposed to be bitterly cold in Denver while I am there. So, I think that I will be sticking to my hotel gym to get my workouts in. Which is a total bummer...
Take that speed concoction with you. I hear it melts snow and ice.

Sounds like you've had some interesting times since the marathon. Glad to hear that you were well enough to enjoy your vacation. Take care of yourself...rest and recover...stay safe in the snow. Looking forward to your training as you prepare for your next goal.

Thanks Michele...I am starting to feel my energy level come back and am hoping that everything is mostly behind me.

Re: The "In Between"
Pretty decent run this morning. I got in a little over 8 miles, which is the most that I have ran at one time in the last 4 weeks. Energy level seems to be there, so I think that I am pretty much over this thing. Also, I was able to step up the pace a bit as the footing was better. We ended up running at an 8:11 pace.
Funny thing about my flight from Denver last evening. Denver Broncos running back, and former Wisconsin Badger, Monte Ball was on my flight.

Re: The "In Between"
A recap of the last week of running. After 4 miles on Sunday, I got in another 3 on Monday and Wednesday at the gym. Still taking it easy from a pace standpoint, but was able to get it under 8 minute miles on Wednesday. Yesterday I got in a good 6.8 miles outside at an easy 8:25 pace. The footing was pretty decent, but then we got a dusting of snow last night. Just enough to make everything white. That made the footing a little slippery, but not too bad for the 6.25 that I got in at an 8:31 pace.

Re: The "In Between"
The week ahead sees me heading to Austin, TX tomorrow for work. That is if I am able to get out of here. We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow morning, with my flight leaving Madison at 9am. To make matters worse, I have a connection in Chicago...ugh. I will probably be in the airport all day tomorrow. Once I get to the Lone Star State, I will get to run in some middle to upper 70s weather. Yay!!

Good luck getting out of the Frost Belt, Nick. Those warm Texas temps are going to feel pretty nice. Hope you get the chance to take advantage of them. Glad also that you're recovering well from that bug.

Re: The "In Between"
So, after my monday flight was cancelled Sunday night, I was able to get booked on a 6:00 flight that got me to O'hare early. Then my connection left at 8:30, before the snow to get to Austin early. Which was nice, because the weather was in the 80s. In fact, the weather has been in the 80s all week here. LOVE IT!!!!

Re: The "In Between"
This morning I was able to get in a good 4 mile run along the Colorado River. The best part is that I was in shorts and a sleeveless tech shirt and wasn't in a gym It was a bit humid this morning and 65 degrees, but it was all gorgeous to me. It has been a while since I had ran in humidity. Also, it was nice to have good footing and be able to wear less clothing. I also found out that I still have a good fitness level, as I was easily able to maintain a 7:30 pace for the run. I didn't want to push the pace, so just kept it comfortable. After I was done the flood gates started from the humidity and I sweat and sweat some more. It was fun
Now I get to try to fly back tomorrow, when another potential snow/ice storm is scheduled to bear down on the midwest. I have a feeling I may be stuck in Denver (where my connection is).

Depending on your perspective, you're leaving at the right time, as the cold front rolls through this morning.

Re: The "In Between"
I ended up making back to Wisconsin on Thursday without an issue. All of the snow stayed north and we just got a lot of rain here in Madison. Of course, it got cold again for the weekend

Re: The "In Between"
I got in a decent weekend of running. I got in 8.08 miles yesterday at an 8:30 pace. Then turned around and got in 6.26 at an 8:27 pace. Energy levels still feel good. I am thinking that next weekend I will try to go a little farther than 8 miles...maybe 10...baby steps

Re: The "In Between"
I had a decent weekend, as I was able to push my distance to 10 miles with no energy issues following it. Going to push it to 6 on Saturday and 14 on Sunday this coming weekend.

Re: The "In Between"
I got in a quick 3 last night at the gym. Things are looking good for this weekend (6 on saturday and 14 on sunday). If all goes well, I will be back on my way to putting the mileage back on.

Good job, Nick! I know it's going to drive you crazy to do it, but the slow build-up is definitely the way to go now.

It is...my goal over the winter was to put in a quasi marathon training cycle. it was supposed to include quite a few 20s to set me up for the spring and summer. Oh well, such is life...I will hopefully get a couple 20 milers in before the end of April...
