Re: 2012 plans
March - Snickers marathon
November - Florida ironman
Throw in a few smaller races for fun and the year will be gone pretty quickly

Re: 2012 plans
I heard back from the RD at the Umstead 100 about volunteering.
I will be going for the entire weekend in late March to volunteer, including clean up on Sunday.
Then I will be guaranteed a registration for the 2013 Umstead 100 - one day of volunteering won't get you that.
It sells out now in minutes, but there is a waiting list system.
The Umstead 100 is a 12.5 mile loop in NC and I plan on running/walking/filming it while I am there in March.
Plus, I will get to see the logistics of it all, which will be helpful in my preparations.
Starting in January, I will begin training for my MI 50-miler, but I may use a plan that leans more toward a 100 schedule. That will get me ready for the 50 and I will be also preparing for the 100 in March.
Chicago will fit in well as a training run.
I will run the North Country 50-miler in August 2012 - followed by Chicago 2012, and then hopefully I can then do the full 100 at Umstead in March 2013. If I feel I am not capable (which I fully accept as possible), then I will do the 50-mile option there.
My wife thinks I am crazy, but I have had crazy dreams before and succeeded.

Re: 2012 plans
I'll be participating in a variety of races next year, but more for training than racing. The ones I do plan to race are:
Indy Mini
Chicago Marathon (if the weather goes to hell, I'll switch that another flat one someplace else.)
Definitely Howl at the Moon Trail for training in August and possibly a trail 50k in December.

This just sounds awesome. (When I was a boy we had great vacations in Tuolomne -- after dad got tired of the valley.)

Tentatively Rockford Roadrunners Survivor winter trail series Jan. 10K, Feb.15K, March 20K. Indoor mile open races Jan. Feb., not officially timed. April Boston (registered) Beyond this probably a fall marathon like Chicago, if not another venue. Maybe a half or 10 miler in June or July.

Re: 2012 plans
I'm planning on the Illinois Marathon in April. After that I'm not sure. Probably a fall half since I would really like to specifically train for a good half sometime. Everything I've done before at that distance was during marathon training and I never felt like I got the best time I am capable of. I'm looking at Disney (Goofy) for January 2013.
Re: 2012 plans
Too Much!
January: Disney - Goofy (Race the 1/2, Survive the Full)
February: Charles Harris 10K
March: Chattahoochee Road Runner's 5K and Georgia 1/2 Marathon
April: Boston Marathon
May: Start of Track Season
June: USTF/ATC Track Meet - 1 Mile and 3000 meter
July: Peachtree Road Race - 10K
August: ?
September: Probably Macon 10K
October: 13.1 Atlanta
November: A 1/2 Marathon of some sort
December: Likely Dalton 10-Miler (RRCA State Championship)
+ about 10-12 random ATC Races and some 5Ks.

Green Bay half in May for sure. Then another half in the fall, probably Las Vegas. Don't think a full marathon is in the cards yet but we shall see.

Re: 2012 plans
One Spring marathon (TBD)
FANS 24 Hour (June)
One Fall Marathon (TBD)
Along with a variety of shorter distance stuff thrown in the mix. Might even get a 50-miler in after my fall marathon if I can convince DW to sign my permission slip.

Re: 2012 plans
With me in full dissertation mode, racing is probably off the whole year. Just keeping 42-45 mpw is a chore. Staying at 7:30 pace has been a chore. So, I think it is safe to say, no races planned for 2012...
Re: 2012 plans
April: Boston Marathon
May: Ironman Texas
Sept: Ironman Wisconsin
Nov: Ironman Cozumel
I may try to fit in one or two 70.3 events for July and August, namely, Ironman Steelhead 70.3 and Ironman Racine 70.3. I will probably sign up for the Chicago Marathon as well and only run it if I feel good.
That's all I have planned. I know it's not much but I'm getting older.

Re: 2012 plans
May - Tough Mudder
June - Maybe Spartan Death Race
September - Spartan Beast
And various other mud races, and maybe some regular ones mixed in.

Oh, is that all. Only 3 ironmans, 2 half ironmans and a marathon. You should really think about challenging yourself a little more . Doesn't sound like the plans of someone getting older to me!!!!!
